Nice story. Thanks.:) add. I think the young lady should set her sights a little higher than Liberty Bible College but that's just me.

I never did the 20% thing. Knowing the company as I do, those girls only make 2 bucks per hour and have to rely on tips ( which those tips are collected and later split evenly between them ).. I tip them fair. Say the tip should be 5.00 for what I ordered,.. I leave 20.00... if it's my wife and kids eating with me, I'll leave 50.00. I can't afford to eat out very often, but I make sure I have enough to leave a fair tip or I don't go. If not for the tips, those people would be working for just about nothing.

You are generous to a fault Hillbilly. A fault we should emulate. Me and the missus start at 25% and it goes up from there depending...

Bob, my wife has worked for the CB company almost two decades. My daughter will be 18 in March and she'll have been a waiter at a local diner ( not a CB though ) 2 years come her birthday ( she started on her 16'th birthday ). What some don't realize is by not tipping a bad waiter, it hurts every one of them. I've seen my daughter come home before saying she wished they didn't have to share tips because money wise the polite ones have to share with the rude girls who's tip bucket collected zilch. You see, there's been a couple girls that don't want a job, they don't like people, etc, but they know it doesn't matter if they care or not because the other girls will make the money for them. The boss at the local diner told me himself that it's hard to keep good help.

I'd like to add that the small town diner where my daughter works pays more than double base pay than the barrel, plus tips. And his place is small business and he and his wife drive old ragged out vehicles. The Barrel is big and healthy, but pay less. I'm beginning to see blue streaks point..

Patty has done some waitressing so we are aware of how it works and even the so so servers get at least the 25% mark. Heck, I even tip for carryout. :) We too rarely go out for dinner.

Thank you for sharing this information hillbilly and as Bob said, kudos to you.

There's an old man that came in to the diner here one day. He asked a waiter how the steak tasted and she said she had no idea because they cost to much. He walked up the the boss and told him to cook a steak dinner for everyone who works there and when the night shift came in to cook them one also. The old guy picked up the tab right there in advance. I had worked on the old mans truck before and he gave me 100.00 more than I asked him for. Said I worked to cheap and I told him thanks and to keep it if he needed it.. but he said no, it's yours kid. Turns out the old fella is just that way, don't see many like him. To look at his old clothing and 76 Dodge truck you wouldn't think he could afford to do that.

Good news for a change.

In my younger years I was a waitress and I have a soft spot for them now. Always try to tip generously if the service is good.
