The issue here is not the rifle but the lack of parenting involved. Many kids, even ones you grew up with were given guns at a young age like this.

This one does come down to poor parenting.

The parents should be charged with child abuse for getting a gun for the child in the first place.

What were they thinking?
A child this age isn't even old enough to cross a busy street by them self and the parents put a gun in his hands!?

This is far more than just bad parenting. This is one symptom of a society that is so manipulated by a strong and influential organization (NRA) that people are protecting their so called gun rights over their own children.

Giving a 5 year old a .22 guage weapon as a birthday gift is beyond bad parenting. It is the culture of gun violence.

When I was 5 I was learning how to ride a bicycle.

My 10 year old neighbor has been shooting since then. He just bagged his first turkey.

But please, continue to think the NRA is only supported by gun manufacturers.

My sixteen year old cousin was taught all the proper ways of handling a shotgun - too bad the kid who shot him was not taught.

Not their only supporters but they sure do give Waynes World a lot of financial support, ask Beretta.

This tragedy was not the Gun or the NRAs fault.

The fact is, had these people followed the NRA's or Gun safety messages, this gun would have been locked up preventing this tragedy in the first place.

Point is some people are just to stupid and shouldn't be allowed to breed children. Maybe we should have background checks and require a license in order to breed.

So was this just Darwin in action? Unfortunately the wrong kid got shot. Considering some parents I have known that might not be a bad idea. The only reason they have marriage licenses is to make money, there is no test for mental maturity.
