Appalachia on PBS

Great show! an' heartbreakingly ugly with the history of coal mining and the fight for the right to organize. To think that all of that blood and and those tears are being lost and forgotten, nowadays.

Listening to Johnny Cash singin', "Forty shades of Green".

Did you see the movie about this student who wanted to go to university to study rocket science but his father wanted him to follow in his footstep and become a miner? I forgot the name, but it provided some insights on the area.

Thanks for the tip. I just did a search on my DVR and programmed it to record. It airs here on March 17. I see it has Ricky Skaggs and Marty Stuart in it - both are very talented, humble and smart guys dedicated to the Appalachian culture.

Jake Gyllenhal's performance was excellent, as Pat said it's called "October Sky". One of our favorites here.

Love this kind of stuff. I'll watch out fer it.

Some of the most influential people in my life came to Detroit from Appalachia. One of them was from "Virginny" and he always had funny sayings. He would have told that kid to not go into the coal mines cuz' he'd be workin' fer queers and alcoholics. :D
