New Bearings.

Well it does say off topic. A last, having dug past the lint and dust in my pockets I've shelled out and got a matched pair of angular bearings plus a plain bearing (all High Precision) for the spindle of my Jones & Shipman Tool & Cutter grinder. Result? All I can hear is a background rumble from the motor bearings and a quiet hiss from the spindle bearings. No vibration. Without a grinding wheel mounted it kicks from zero to 3000 rpm in less than a second:eek: Actually it's a little scary. With the radio on I can't rely on hearing it running. It's 3 phase so not easy to do, but I'm thinking of fitting a step-down transformer and green light that comes on when the machine's running...........

That would be a smart move, safety-wise. Just don't let a burned out bulb catch you by surprise.
