School shooting in Ohio.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-...hool-shooting/

I hear he tweeted his intentions to fellow students the night before. None of them took him seriously. Terrible tragedy indeed. Might have been avoided if just one person had spoken up.

(And, no. I don't think that if all of the students and faculty had AK47s, Glocks and hand grenades they could have nipped this one in the bud.)

I just spoke to a 08 grad and he said 2 are dead, and that the shootings weren't random - he knew who he was going to shoot.

While we have all experienced Bullying from others in our lives, I believe that the alienation and physical abuse of students should be eliminated completely.

I know when I was young, bullying from older students caused many students to hide and remove themselves from the attention of the bullyies, only to be searched out, and beaten, spit on and humiliated further. When will the school districts learn that this is cause of these students emotional explosion, trying to stop the continual abuse against them.
Even when the students reported the abuse, teachers would only tell the bullyies to leave these students alone ?

On a better note: The teacher that chased the armed student from the school, with the possible loss of life or limb, is truly a Hero. A Very, Very few would chase an armed suspect that had already proved his willingness to fire his weapon. We will never know how many lives he may have saved.

I Agree, Bill. The teacher that went after him, risking his own life, deserves recognition.

Bullying is a very bad thing. It puts a kid in a corner and leaves him, or her, no choice but to lash out or lose his her mind. Or both, apparently.

And, as I understand it, there are efforts under way to curb it. I can only wonder how effective they will be. I think you Dads are much more aware than I how difficult it can be to control a friggin' teenager. I can only imagine how tough it can be.

They're saying it may have been a case of bullying. It will all come out in the wash.

Yeah I'm sure.

Not too sure about stopping bullying completely though. If it's even possible. Think about a very soft populace, softer than even today! How eaasily led will they be?

No, but we can discourage it. I can't imagine letting bullies run amok is a good idea either. Imagine a society full of nothing but belligerant assholes. How do we maintain a reasonably tranquil society like that?

Do kids go to school to learn, or to spend the whole day fighting to preserve their dignity and sanity, ferfuksake?

Oh I understand. Heck, my name is Peter. I'm just uncertain we're not going too far the other way - I remember being taught to stand up for myself, and sometimes you'll get in trouble for doing the right thing.

Took a while before I did though. And even now I probably don't often enough, believe it or not.

My prayers go out to those effected by this mess.

Being a big kid, I was always a crossing guard, a member of the Safety Patrol. We were supposed to check all the nooks and crannies of the school, to keep the smoking students away from the school.
I couldn't tell you how many students that I would find every day, hiding from other students that wanted to hurt them.
When I brought this to the attention of the Vice. Principle in charge of the Safeties, he said for me to send them to their councilors, and under no conditions was I supposed to allow them to stay in those areas ?

Everyone in our school had problems with bullies, even the bullies had groups of other bullies beating on them. It seemed as though we were a pack of wild dogs fighting for the control of the pack. It's truly a wonder that no one snapped and killed anyone there.

Most teachers only want a 9 - 5 job, and not to become involved in anything other than their classes.

I remember on day I set up a brand new 35 mm sound projector in a classroom, when I came out of the classroom three fellows told me to leave the door open, or. Knowing that I was responsible for that brand new equipment, I locked the door behind me. The three attacked me to get the keys, and I did my best to defend myself, and injured one of them badly enough for him to need to go to the hospital. I ended up in the Principals office with the police, facing charges fro fighting in school ? And no one cared that I was protecting school equipment, and myself from three attackers.
I did get this resolved, but quit the visual aids department and handed in my safety badge, and told them that I don't need this shit ! Even back then, schools sucked big time.

Had two bullies in school but after I found out that the Marquis of Queensbury was a barking idiot and beat the crap out of both that ended it. Gentlemanly art of boxing my arse. Somebody beats on you then use any means you can to stop it. Fighting dirty? Hell yes, is there any other way?
