sociaty at its worst. good deed or epic fail?

so, i did my good deed for the day or atleast i think i did, i was driving to the store tonight when i saw a couple in there mid 20s standing on the corner of congress ave fighting, the girl was on the sidewalk was just sitting there on the curb wile her BF or whatever the hell he was, was screaming at her and smacking her for no apparent reason, she was just sitting there with her fists balled up against her head balling wile this POS kept hitting her over and over, they also had a baby in a stroller and he was ramming the stroler with the baby in it, into her, and the baby was screaming and crying, this is one of the most horrible things ive ever saw in the streets down here and i had to do something, i was gunna stop the car and get out and hit the guy in the face with a tire iorn but since my licence is bad and my car isnt legit i didnt wanna get in trouble , i wouldnt have gave a shit about going to jail to save the mother and the child, but i didnt wanna loose my jeep, so i went around the corner where i could keep an eye on them and called the fucking cops. the asshole BF went to jail, and i wrote a statement about what i saw. i think i did the right thing, was i in the wrong? seeing this kinda crap infuriates me soo damn much if i had my gun in the car i probubly woulda put a bullet in his fucking head! i absolutly DETEST wife beaters but child abuse is something that makes me more angry than just about anything in the world. so do you think i did the right thing? i think so!

If the dude is that crazy in public, think what he's like behind closed doors.
You might have saved a life.

In this instance, I'd vote for a tire iron between the ears. You could always bend it out straight again with a sledge hammer.

Good job, Rob!

My opinion of you just clicked up several notches.
Keep it up and maybe I'll stop making fun of you.

Calling the cops is always the best idea.

Why?

Nearly invariably, in this situation, everyone involved turns on YOU. (There's nothing like watching the supposed victim go irate once she discovers that "you're taking my man to jail?")

Sigh...

I actually saw this happen, once. Standing in line at the Navy Credit Union. A guy was talking serious trash to his old lady. Calling her all kinds of nasty names and threatening to beat the s**t out of her.......When a young hispanic guy, a sailor, stepped in and tried to give this A-hole a piece of his mind, the WOMAN smacked him in the face and yelled, "F**K OFF! Mind you're own damn business! You don't know what's going on here!". Then a bank employee asked them to leave. The kid turned to me with a stunned look on his face and asked; "What was that?"

"Beats me. Maybe she likes being publicly humiliated and slapped around?"

My gut feeling is the police would of not made a big deal about your problems anyway.

Good call!

It's called 'fear' , Dave.
Fear of how she's going to pay the rent when he's in jail.
Fear that others will find out her life isn't what they think it should be.
Fear that when he gets out of jail he will come back and really teach her a lesson.
Unfortunately, there are women who mistake this fear for something called love.

I would call the cops and then make sure child protective services knew of the situation. One shouldn't assume the because the cops should do it it will get done. It is probably legal for her to get that crap as long as she allows it to occur. The poor baby is defenseless and could get shaken baby syndrome from things like that. Preventable brain damage or worse isn't fair. or legal.
