I know we don't talk politics in the other place
but the members who get their knickers in a twist over every silly over-priced CL ad really make me wonder. I mean, if they want to get upset about summat how about all the fertilizer emanating from Capitol Hill?:p

i think overpriced craigslist ads are nothing but a good laugh. but at the same time i can see why people get shitty about flippers. as a stereo collector, i know how much most people pay for old stereo gear at garage sales, thrift shops, etc. and when i see someone post a ad for a marantz 2270 for sale for $700.00, that they probubly paid $5.oo for at a garage sale, it can be frustrating. because other people see how much that guy was asking for his receiver and they think there old gear is worth that much, wich drives up prices for the little guy like me., just my take.

Agreed Rob, but when I see ads like that I just shake my head and move on, life is too short.

Faced with a choice of freeing myself of some gear or expanding the house, I have pretty much quit perusing C-list. However, one thing I used to notice when people posted that type of price on something is that the ad kept returning and returning and returning. You see some of the same folks wasting a lot of money on e-bay with over-priced BINs.

We have a guy here, who bought up a TON of vintage gear off of E-bay at top dollar. And now expects to make a profit. I've visited his storage unit twice now and not purchased a single thing. He has a lot, and I do mean a LOT of beautiful gear. He must have spent thousands. But, none of it is worth what he's asking, and he won't budge, says "If I can't turn a buck on it, there's no sense in selling it and I'm not giving it away." There are a few AKers in the area, waiting for him to cave and start liquidating. His ad has been on CL for almost a year now. It's sad to watch that happen. He's a really nice guy, but he just doesn't understand that he overpaid in the first place.
You should see it though-----Everything. From Sansui to McIntosh, Yamaha, Marantz, Magnepan, AR, Scott, Revox.......Tubes, Solid State.......From parts to darn near perfect. Dave |
Its the laws of supply and demand. That and a bit of luck in finding that just right buyer. If someone does not like the price, complaining about it is not very productive.
