School suspends grieving student, wants blood test.

I read this and thought, what the hell are these people thinking? This kid wants to go on, and the school staff causes more pain. Give the kid credit for wanting to go to school. This really ticked me off.

When a school enacts a "no tolerance" policy it it might appear that it removes discretion from administrators. Others, it just makes afraid of their shadow. The matter doesn't come under the drug policy unless there is actual evidence of drug use. The error here is failing to consider other reasons for the red eyes prior to concluding their appearance was related to drug use. They could have considered the alternative cause for the red eyes without failing to strictly enforce a strict no-drug policy. That was indeed a failure of administrative judgment.

I would think that if a parent uses an excuse for their childs appearance, it would not be this one. When you excuse your child from school, usually with a call to the attendance line, a reason is given. Just plain ignorance on this administration.

I just thank god that my granddaughters are in Canada and that I do not have any child in the shools here.

I knew that you would nail this issue, and you did it with two words. You can forget ever being a lawyer, though. How can you expect to make any money making your point in two words.

Query: what was the kid's record before the suspension?

A lot changes if there's a history, whether we like it or not...

I have not commented because it's horrific on the surface but this article tells us nothing from the schools side.

Excellent point, Zeke.

I know I may sound like a judgmental prude here but:

The boy's last name is Robertson and his mother's last name is Fritz.

His father didn't simply die. He was murdered.

These could all be indications of a pretty unstable home environment for the kid.

But the story indicated that he took the drug test and it was negative.
