Former chief justice: Is the United States headed toward a two-state solution?

If we tried it, it would be an unstable situation. The Red States after cutting social safety net programs, would try to send economic refugees to the Blue States. Strife at the borders would ensue, and the Reds would probably progress to outright 'racial cleansing.' Economic woes and general resentment would likely lead the Reds to attempt reconquest of the Blues. The Blue states, Canada, and Mexico would defeat them. Ultimately we'd likely wind up in a protracted 'reconstruction' with the Red States under military occupation, and their white population facing odium and discrimination as the instigators of the bloody 'race war' and continued terroristic resistance.

Broderick is right that the present situation is dire, with the citizenry split into two camps that share little in their worldview and each regard the other as dangerous enemies. But the goal must be to bridge the gaps, rebuild commonality, and climb down from this crisis. The world does not need the sort of nation the Red States would become. And if you think the Reds and Blues are polarized now, just wait until they have an actual war. Hate begets hate, after all.

The reality is there is no true division of Red/Blue that would ever be workable. The truest neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother ..... setup.

Never mind that, the GOP prize is the United States, all of it. They know in a separation they would be USA light. As great as they'd claim to be they'd forever be second place. Never the power and prestige of the original country. Never mind that economically they couldn't survive. The GOP doesn't want a portion they want it all.

Agree. They would accept a partition only if forced on the field of battle, and would not actually have any intent to make peace, only to regroup to resume fight.

After listening to the testimony in the hearings today. No doubt in my mind at all. Killing of those who stood up and did what was right. Very well could of happened. In a few cases might of happened if the people were at home. Had not went into hiding.

We are I'm afraid at the start of, going to the middle of the civil war. That one side has been getting ready for now these many years.
