Gary Brooker...

I watched snippets of the Grammy Awards show last night...and caught the "In Memorium" segment. Many significant losses, Dusty Hill, Don Everly, Nanci Griffith, Lloyd Price, of course Charlie Watts...and many others. But I was not aware of the death of Gary Brooker in February from cancer.

I saw Procol Harum once...Auditorium Theater, Chicago, PRIL 20, 1972. It was brilliant. Gary Brooker along with being one of the greatest songwriters in popular music, was a stellar musician and one of the great voices in popular music...

A Salty Dog Live with Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Just realized that Lloyd Price had passed.

One of th best Brit fusion bands. A Whiter Shade of Pale being an excellent example.

Ahhh yes, A Whiter Shade of Pale. A big part of the Music of Procol Harum was the lyrics...often confusing, sometimes disturbing...

I'll waylay your daughter
Kidnap your wife
Savage her sexless
Burn out her eyes
I'll blacken your Christmas
And piss on your door
You'll cry out for mercy
Still there'll be more

"Still There'll Be More"
Music by Gary Brooker, lyrics by Keith Reid

Some guy appears to have made Keith so mad that the only thing won't do is kill the dude.

Listened to Whiter Shade and the lyrics ... well, let's just say it's a old love story that's sung often by a millers sons who should be working, but the song and story are too beautiful not to be told. It was the Summer of Love's big hit. I was only 12 and loved it.

He's way too mad to kill the dude. Leaving him alive for all that is much worse.
