If China......

If it was a Chinese research lab by accidental handling of the Covid-19 virus is now suspected, then indicated to be root of the pandemic, what repercussions?

Should they be held financially liable for damages?

I say HE** YES!!!

The W.H.O. are currently investigating in Wuhan this very theory.

The Binden administration needs to be out front on this one!

Our position, should the roles be reversed?
Denial or accountability?
The former likely if 'Pubs in charge, is Biden ethically Jimmy Carter otherwise?

There may be other implications.

Was this lab doing contract work for foreign entities?

With the current rise of disinformation and conspiracy running amuck. The real truth will never be known or accepted.
I doubt it was an intentional act rather a mistake then covered up. Not a weapon but research on viruses.
With the lack of openness in China there will always be the doubts to any decision or conclusions.

With the impacts to the world by the virus I feel there will be a growing demand for financial repercussions from them.

I don't think China will pay the price because I do not see how they can be forced to do so. In one way or another, China is now an integral part of the world economy, well entrenched in Africa and South America and we willingly let this happen. Even today, most of the masks we wear come from China, especially the N95 variant (KN 95) which was developed by 3M.

China is now the leading destination for investment.

Furthermore, Europe has capitulated with its recent significant agreement with China.

The West went to China to take advantage of cheap labor and underestimated the ability of China to absorb/transfer the technology and finesse the system especially after its entry into the WTO.

China has an edge in the time of the virus because of the dictatorial nature of its government; it can out carry policies with less push back from its populace in comparison to western countries.

Xi is not going to bow.

Granted getting China to take responsibility is wishful thinking. I'm thinking that the Right will be flooding the airwaves with three word slogans like "Make China Pay", "Sue China Now"!

Biden should get out in front now and have the momentum.

Remember Kissinger's secret trip to China? And then Nixon made it official and the Republicans have been in bed with China ever since.

Lot easier to ask Mexico to pay for a wall than China for the pandemic.

You mean, Biden should echo Trump?

Biden is in a bad position...be weak on China and confirm his critics, be strong on China and validate Trump.

As a matter of fact, the US is in a bad spot. Having given up a significant section of its manufacturing base it is now woefully dependent on China for a whole slew of goods and in a time of massive printing of money US cannot afford a shortage of consumer goods. That would be a recipe for runaway inflation.
The distribution of printed money now, in the time of Covid, is somewhat different than before. Covid has forced the powers that be to give money directly to the people. Previously fiat was shared mainly by those close to the printing - bankers, and their friends - whose spending and investment habits are radically different from the average joe.

The matrix that is now imposed on US society and its economy by Covid is not going to change for now. It seems to me that some states have adopted a de facto herd immunity policy to confront the new complexities.
