The mandate for the census is found in article 2, section 1 of the Constitution. This seems to be the relevant bit.

the 'they' who 'shall by law direct' is Congress. The President is bound to do the enumeration in the way the law passed by Congress says.

AFAIK his latest move is just face-saving, ordering the agencies to do what they are already doing as far as data-sharing goes. Haven't heard as of this minute of plans to mess with the census-taking further.

Hope so, just don't trust the President and Barr along with the rest of the Republicans.

Well, if he doesn't, Congress would have clear grounds to impeach him, if they want....

The government can get information irrespective of census.

Was thinking he would sign a ex order to implement a more favorable counting for the GOP.

Very apparent they want to under count non white's.

Why else?

Stupid for the very fact federal funding is based on total population, not just citizens. They are only worried about protecting their hold representation. Cheating when necessary.

And asking the citizen question is scary.
