First dead in 5 years

I did not think it so but last week Detroit had its first officer killed in 5 years. Though I may not care much for this city, I agree its a very sad thing to have happened. I have much respect for all who take the oath to serve and protect.

Then you get aholes like this like Ron Scott fellow tearing the cops a new asshole for shooting a guy who shot 5 cops. WTF has this world come too.

I'm amazed that only one officer has been killed in Detroit in five years. I would have thought that it would be quite a bit more.

I also have a lot of respect for the police. No doubt there are a few assholes, but most of them are pretty decent people. The one's I know look at arresting someone as the last resort.

My kids have been impressed with the Lawrence cops. They are most interested in keeping people safe. They would rather get a ride home for someone who's drunk than arrest them. Maybe that's why the younger one is considering it as a career choice.

Here they 'look' for ANY reason to arrest you or citate you. Keeps money rollin' into the courthouse, and city police department or sheriff's department. No kiddin'. I begged a few hi-rollers to help fund a skating rink, but that was a mistake. I was an evil bastard for thinking such a thing as they claim it would only give kids a place to get into trouble .. and they don't want anything like that in our county. And they wonder why so many of the young people commit suicide in our county. They grow up sheltered, nothin' to do, cops'll split you up if four or five kids are walking down a sidewalk together because unless they are siblings the cops think they are upto no good, and when they enter the real world having to deal with people .. they dunno how to and some just finaly give up. I hope one day my kids will thank me for living out in the country, and letting them invite friends over to spend weekends together riding the horses, atv's, or just let 'em go fishin or load 'em up for the 60 mile round trip to the movie theater to watch a movie. I've had folks tell me I should think about being sued before I let other kids spend nights with ours and maybe get hurt while with us. But I just remind them that my broke ass worries alot less about being sued than I do about drugs, and suicides in the obituaries.

The cops around here are weasels. I watched a cop "confiscate" my neighbors fireworks last 4th of July-----he picked through the bags and only took what he wanted. If you call them to your home, it had better be for nice, juicy murder. 'Cuz, if it's for anything less, they'll tell you straight up that there isn't much they can do. You're on your own.
Like when someone stole the stereo out of my car years ago, "Yeah we have a lot of that around here. If we catch them, we'll let you know." Never heard from them again.

I should try that at work some time; "Dave, why is this line down?" "I dunno. Happens all the time. If I figure it out, I'll let you know, maybe....someday. Whoa, It's lunch time. Later Dude." My guess is I'd be unemployed shortly thereafter.

Good for you Hillbilly for being involved. Hope you're not offended by citing one of Hillary Clinton's favorite phrases, that it takes a village to raise a child. It sounds like your home is one of those safe homes where other parents can be comfortable about their kids staying. One thing I noticed about kids, is that they want to act like they aren't paying attention when their parents tell them something, but will listen to another adult say the same thing. As mine have gotten older, however, I've learned that they paid a lot more attention than they were letting on.

All kids are going to make some bad choices, but involved parents help them learn from those bad choices, and hopefully help them avoid worse ones down the line, when they have to answer to authorities who aren't as forgiving as parents.

D-Ray

Pic of Detroit cop sleeping in squad raises questionsDetroit police investigating the Mediatakeout.com post, say it might be a hoax

Look at the date that story hit. If it was a hoax don't you think they would have dismissed it by now. There has been no follow up that i'm aware of as of today.
