Political Forums - Doyle Bramhall II

Went to see Doyle Bramhall II last night. I expected a lot, but ended up disappointed. I was mostly familiar with his performances at the Crossroads Guitar Festivals, and with his musical heritage - his dad played with and wrote songs for Stevie Ray Vaughn, and he helped form a band called the ARC Angels with the members of Double Trouble. He had toured with Clapton and with Roger Waters.

The first part of the show was the basic blues-tinged rock. After about an hour, the drummer came out to play the sax - and they began a five or six minute "song" in which they attempted to show that they are avant garde - no discernible rhythm or melody. From that, it deteriorated into complete self-indulgence. They turned their amps up to eleven and they tried to see how much feedback they could create. It seemed like they were just trying to see how much the crowd would put up with. After around ten minutes of that, we decided that we were not going to find out how long he would keep it up. I guess I have officially become an old fart.
