If this tape is true, this mayor needs to go. Right goddamn now. There is no room in the Democratic party or any other for this shit.

"Numerous public officials are calling on Jim Fouts, the mayor of Warren, Mich., to resign after audio recordings surfaced over the long weekend allegedly catching him making obscene comments about black people and women.

In those audio files, first published Monday by Steve Neavling of the Motor City Muckraker, a man can be heard comparing black people to “chimps,” calling them the n-word and talking crudely and dismissively about dating older women. (Warning: The files contain offensive language.)

A group of eight public officials representing the citizens of Warren, a city in Macomb County about 20 miles north of Detroit, said in a joint statement Tuesday that they recognized the voice in the recordings to be that of 74-year-old Fouts — an allegation the Democratic mayor has vehemently denied.

“These comments are hateful. They are racist and disparaging of women,” the group of officials said in the statement. “The leader of our State’s third largest city should be a role model for how we treat each other and anyone that harbors these feelings and expresses them is not fit to lead.”" WaPo

Yeah, they've been playing the tapes on the radio here. They're just ugly.

Fouts has been pretty adamant that the voice on the tapes are not his. Folks who know him well claim that the voice "certainly sounds like Fouts".

I'd like to think that no one is capable of talking like this, much less allow themselves to somehow end being recorded saying stuff like this. Also, the "protester crowd" has shown up, and the media has had all kinds of fun making sure they have good video of the protesters yelling all kinds of vile, unhinged crap at Fouts. :rolleyes:

Certainly, if it can be determined that it is Fouts on tape, he needs to go. But we're innocent until proven guilty - even Democrats. :p Its hard to know what to make of all this, because its also wrapped in politics, and Fouts has politically rubbed some folks the wrong way over the years (witness how quickly virtually no one has come rushing to his defense, including fellow Dems). So, the possibility that these recordings have been digitized and altered to sound like Fouts can't be dismissed either.

This one will be interesting to watch as it plays out.

And this kind of hate and fear mongering as never been louder coming from the left than it has been since the election in November. The left tried to ascribe racism to the Tea Party movement but that effort fell flat on its face. But that's nothing compared to the shrillness that's coming from the left now.
