Deep Dive into Russia's Interference in US Election

U.S. President Barack Obama has ordered intelligence agencies to review cyber attacks and foreign intervention into the 2016 election and deliver a report before he leaves office on Jan. 20, the White House said on Friday.

In October, the U.S. government formally accused Russia of a campaign of cyber attacks against Democratic Party organizations ahead of the Nov. 8 presidential election, and Obama has said he warned Russian President Vladimir Putin about consequences for the attacks.

This comes on top of evidence of Russian tampering in numerous European countries' elections. Of course, Trump still thinks it's a 400# kid in his parents' basement in New Jersey, whereas all 17 US intelligence agencies agree it's Russia. This should be interesting.

Better come out with a report soon. Or it will go nowhere after 1/20/2017!

Even if it finds Russian tampering, nothing will be done with the new administration in power now.

First of all that "17 agencies" claim was made by Hillary regarding the hacked DNC emails, not the election.

And second of all, it was bullshit.

But maybe Colin Powell can be recruited to make a presentation to the UN proving that the Russians hacked our election. This time instead of holding up a vial of anthrax maybe he can hold up a flash drive.

What Clinton said was false and misleading. First of all, only two intelligence entities – the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – have weighed in on this issue, not 17 intelligence agencies. And what they said was ambiguous about Russian involvement. An unclassified October 7, 2016 joint DNI-DHS statement on this issue said the hacks . . . are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow — the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europa and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities. Saying we think the hacks “are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts” is far short of saying we have evidence that Russia has been responsible for the hacks. Maybe high-level officials would have authorized them if Russian hackers were responsible, but the DNI and DHS statement did NOT say there was evidence Russia was responsible.

My education about how the US Government lies to it's citizens began when I was in the 7th grade at Largo Junior High School. That's when Eisenhower got caught lying about the U2 incident.

If the US government tells me Russia hacked our election I will give it the same credibility as I did when they told me Saddam had WMD.

I am so glad for you that the credibility of the US government will change remarkably after 1/20/2017!

Ignorance appears to be a prerequisite for a cabinet position.

I don't know where you got that idea.

Along with disdain for the Department one is to be administering.

I would not put it past Trump to go after regular civil service personnel even though their positions are protected by statute.
