Morelly Corrupt

Last year they widened the road along my south property line.
I hated it. Took away sound and sight barrier trees/underbrush that had protected my house.
Today I got a little bit back. The disturbed ground yielded 29 morel mushrooms, and hopefully more to come.

Wow. I've never found more than one of those at once.

29 should be enough to give you control of the whole state. You can be Mushroom King!

(If more do come up, would it make sense to leave some standing, to spread spores?)

Congrats! Great find! I've never found one here. Probably the soil of the Black Forest does not provide an appropriate morel habitat.

Lucky you. The house I moved from in Kansas had old growth trees and loamy soil. I got morels on occasion. Fried them up and et' them I did.

Don't recall ever seeing any here. Not on my property anyways. I hear they are super-delicious, however. Maybe if I pray to the Mushroom God?

Thought about eating these. Bet they would have been delicious.

I don't know mushrooms well enough to know which ones are edible and which ones are not.

That's one of the cool things about morels. they are very distinctive, nothing else looks like them. Anyone can gather them safely (assuming someone isn't lurking around who regards the patch as theirs....)

Hey, what am I saying? That thing in the picture is VERY POISONOUS. Leave them be, and if they are within a hundred miles or so of Dayton, call me and I'll dispose of them safely!

:) :) :)

Yeah, no kidding. I've never seen anything like those anywhere before but there they were growing in my neighborhood. I tried looking them up and still couldn't ID them.
