The Cruz Surge

So if the Republicans manage to take down Trump, it appears that Cruz may be in position to take the lead.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cruz-s...225325359.html

Quote:

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has surged ahead to become the latest front-runner in the campaign for the Iowa caucuses, dislodging Ben Carson and opening an impressive lead over a stalled Donald Trump, a Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows.

The firebrand junior senator from Texas is backed by 31 percent of those likely to attend the Republican caucuses that start the presidential nomination season on Feb. 1. Trump is a distant second at 21 percent, up slightly from 19 percent in October, but below his peak of 23 percent in August.

Boreas 12-13-2015 11:41 AM

Yes, but the Republican establishment hates Cruz too. The difference is that Cruz may be less likely to trigger a revolt within the party and cause a brokered convention.

Rajoo 12-13-2015 12:05 PM

Cruz seems to be picking up Carson supporters while Trump's support remain unchanged. So now the Trump attack on Cruz has officially begun, first by questioning his judgement and today calling Cruz 'a maniac in the senate'.
So a Trump/Cruz pairing can either seal them the nomination or give us endless entertainment.

68custom 12-13-2015 12:26 PM

I hope they continue to squabble and entertain us! Cruz is also a D-bag!

finnbow 12-13-2015 12:56 PM

"I don't think he has the right temperament. I don't think he's got the right judgment. When you look at the way he has dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a, you know, frankly, like a little bit of a maniac -- you are never going to get things done that way."

Cruz is now a solid second.

Donald Trump's perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.

In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.

Trump's share remained essentially unchanged from the university's last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided

Boreas 12-22-2015 11:37 AM

Cruz is just the beneficiary of Carson's implosion. That being said, Cruz is seen by many as "Electable Trump" but the fact is, he's much worse. His ideas and his thought processes are profoundly frightening.

Rajoo 12-22-2015 11:52 AM

We know and so does GOP that Cruz is dangerous, no one really knows how dangerous Trump will be. So fear of the unknown will be a driving factor as Kasich, Fearina, Christie et. al drop out of the race. Cruz has already offered Rubio a position in his presumptive presidency. ;)

This is why you can't go by any one poll.

However it is obvious from the aggregate of polls that Trump is leading.

On Wednesday, a CNN/ORC poll found him with his largest lead yet: a 21-point advantage over US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has been surging lately.
When you take the average of the last 8 polls from the Real Clear Politics site, Trump has a 17 point lead.

Ted Cruz Is Worse

I continue to maintain that of all the candidates on the Republican side, Trump is the least worse.

http://www.alternet.org/election-201...-his-losing-it

Quote:

Stop freaking out about Trump winning the nomination because compared to Cruz, his agenda looks downright moderate.
Quote:

But, personal style aside, the grim fact of the matter is that Trump is no worse than the wretched hive of scum and villainy that makes up the entire Republican field at this point. Every last one of those mothers is a moral monster who has no business running the country and if any of them win, this country will be so much the sorrier for it.

So what? That's like saying that, compared to ebola and Dengei fever, dysentery is the least worse.

The mortality rate for Ebola is about 70%

For Dengei fever it's about 1%.

So yeah, that's probably a reasonable analogy.

There goes Tailgunner Ted's outsider street cred with the news that Ted took a big 'off the books' loan from Goldman/Sachs for his Senate campaign.

Between this unreported loan, the issues surrounding his citizenship and the fact that the Party simply hates his guts, Cruz may be finished.

Tailgunner Ted made a swipe at 'New York values' today. Oops.

Did the Goldman Sachs loan issue come up in the debate?

I think it's hillarious that Trump is playing "Born in the USA" at his rallys to taunt Cruz.:D

I know the Boss doesn't like Republicans to use his music, but I think an exception is warranted in this case. :)

Rajoo 01-15-2016 10:31 AM

I think Trump should get T-shirts made with the NY Daily News cartoon and send people to Ted Cruz's rally's. That should flip Ted on his head.

What could possibly be more 'New York Values' than an under-the-table loan from a giant Wall Street bank?

Next GOP debate is in Iowa on January 28. Iowa's caucus is on February 1.

Tom Joad 01-15-2016 07:36 PM

And he follows it up with what has got to be the lamest "apology" ever made.

Quote:

I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers that have been held down by liberal policies in New York City.

I apologize to the hard-working men and women in the state of New York who have been denied jobs because Gov. Cuomo won’t allow fracking. Even though there have been many high-paying jobs just south in Pennsylvania, New Yorkers have been denied the chance to provide for their families.

I apologize to all the pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-Second Amendment New Yorkers told by Gov. Cuomo that they have no place in New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.

I apologize to all the small businesses that have been driven out of New York City by crushing taxes and regulations.

I apologize to all of the African American children who Mayor De Blasio tried to throw out of their schools that were providing a lifeline to the American dream.

And I apologize to all of the cops, firefighters, and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor De Blasio, because Mayor De Blasio, over and over again, stands with the looters and criminals rather than the brave men and women of law enforcement.

donquixote99 01-15-2016 07:42 PM

Wow. Now we have something to put in the textbooks as the classic example of 'weasel words.'

bobabode 01-15-2016 07:46 PM

Stick a fork in Cruz Missile Ted. He's done.

68custom 01-15-2016 08:53 PM

perma-smirk became a frown. poor ted. :(

Rajoo 01-16-2016 10:02 AM

Trump is going after Ted like only he can and does.

Donald Trump just shredded NY-hater Ted Cruz in 6 Tweets
Quote:

Ted Cruz was born in Canada and was a Canadian citizen until 15 months ago. Lawsuits have just been filed with more to follow. I told you so
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

Ted Cruz said he "didn't know" that he was a Canadian Citizen. He also FORGOT to file his Goldman Sachs Million $ loan papers. Not believable
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

Was there another loan that Ted Cruz FORGOT to file. Goldman Sachs owns him, he will do anything they demand. Not much of a reformer!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

The Ted Cruz wiseguy apology to the people of New York is a disgrace. Remember, his wife's employer, and his lender, is located there!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

Oh no, just reported that Ted Cruz didn't report another loan, this one from Citi. Wow, no wonder banks do so well in the U.S. Senate.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

Based on the fact that Ted Cruz was born in Canada and is therefore a "natural born Canadian," did he borrow unreported loans from C banks?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 16, 2016

Last one is a bit weak but what the heck.

Should not matter, timing is the key here. Lots of chatter just before Iowa and NH. Citizenship question plays well in Iowa and the Goldman Sachs loan will play well in NH.
