It's Election Day in Canada
Harper teams up with the Rob Ford.
"Here's where the Harper campaign finds itself today. Hungry for votes in the Greater Toronto Area, they embraced the populist might of Rob and Doug Ford, welcoming them this week to a campaign event in the Fords' stomping ground of Etobicoke, arranging to share the spotlight with them on Saturday at a rally for the Prime Minister in Toronto." http://www.esquire.com/news-politics...da-parliament/ What could possibly go wrong? ;) |
Just finished John Oliver's take of the elections on his show earlier. The last bit with Mike Myers on the election and Harper is priceless, worth the 5K and six months in jail who knows.

It's looking like the end of the Conservative's 10 year rule. I guess we'll really know early tomorrow morning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzf6rI567HA Cheers to ya, cousins.;) |

This is beginning to look like a blowout! Right now it's 105 to 62. The liberals look set to gain an outright majority.

It may just be symbolic since they are now owned by Coors and Anheuser-Busch respectively. |

Okay, it's done. The Liberals have won 156 seats at this point. The social democratic NDP has won 20. That would allow a 176 seat ruling coalition as of right now. And there are 68 seats still in play. The Conservatives are toast!
|
170 as of a minute ago!
|
The Liberals just hit 170 seats confirmed. It's over, an absolute majority for the Liberal Party, no coalition necessary.
|
So far, 300 seats have been decided. The Conservatives have won less than 1/3 of them. This is as near a total rejection as it gets.

Harpers gone! Thank the lord almighty Harper is gone! God only knows the depths of my hatred for Harper. I'd rather relinquish my citizenship than side with Harper and his ilk.

i see most of those posting here are doing so from US address's,i don't know how many are canucks living stateside, but for those that might not be...our new PM Elect,is again a Trudeau, the son of a former much loved and to be fair, much hated by some PM...this is such poetic justice on so many levels for Harper,to be defeated by a Trudeau...again for those not familiar with the narrative,Justin Trudeau is roughly the Canadian equivalent of JFK Jr running for president in the US[had he lived to run of course]...there are so many happy people here today.in so many minds,we have finally taken our country back, restored it to what it was and always should be...there were tears of joy for many in these parts late last night.. |
Native Californian here Rod but as a cousin several times removed, I'm pretty friggin' happy to see Harper get tarred & feathered. :D
Welcome to PC, btw. |
Welcome, Rod.

A Maryland transplant to California here but one who has spent a great deal of time in Canada over the years. I love the place!
I'm also old enough to remember Pierre Elliott Trudeau fondly.... and Margaret too. ;) |
Pm elect Trudeau on his first day actually held a press conference and took open questions from reporters...this would seem a small thing, but was so refreshing!talking directly to reporters is something that Harper has simply refused to do for over 7 years!JT is off to a good start.
he's made a lot of promises and hopefully will be able to keep them, but this simple expected duty is quite symbolic..it is real change on the first day!it's been so long since I've seen the press room at parliament,i had totally forgotten what it looked like, and it looks to need a reno lol :) subject matter was predictable, when will you do this or that, who have you spoken with etc...seems he and US pres Obama had a friendly chat, both purposely avoiding any sticky issues,JT seemed to think they liked each other well enough,Obama giving him some personal advice on family/work balance etc,Obama is the outgoing pres of course but i think both countries can have hopes for more constructive relations in the mean time |
