Texas governor tells State Guard to monitor Army training

Right wing paranoia:rolleyes:

Quote:

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday asked the State Guard to monitor a U.S. military training exercise dubbed "Jade Helm 15" amid Internet-fueled suspicions that the war simulation is really a hostile military takeover.

The request comes a day after more than 200 people packed a meeting in rural Bastrop County and questioned a U.S. Army commander about whether the government was planning to confiscate guns or implement martial law. Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said "conspiracy theorists" and "fear mongers" had been in a frenzy.

Texas.

I did a search and found no other story on this.

It's insane and to my mind, grounds to dismiss the governor either on a psychiatric or treason.

What strange is this bag of hammers was Rick 'dumber than a box of rocks' Perry's AG. No offense to hammers or rocks.

Texas really should've elected the gal in the sneakers.

I don't see how you missed it.

I doubt it's a hoax.

CBS is carrying it.

Suspicions about Jade Helm intensified on some conservative websites and social media after a map labeled Texas, Utah and parts of California as "hostile" for the purposes of the three-month training exercise that begins in July. Such war simulations aren't unusual, though the Army has acknowledged that the size and scope of Jade Helm makes it unique.

Jade Helm launched across seven states in the Southwest, CBS affiliate KEYE reported. The states are hosting the exercises on public and private lands. The Army says the terrain and topography in the areas selected are ideal to replicate foreign combat zones.

"BASTROP —
On a map released by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command to show the fictitious battlefield of the Jade Helm 15 training exercise, Texas is labeled as “hostile” territory." ;)

Pandering. The monitoring will be fictitious.

Beside the ones already linked to, there's this one. There are more besides.

It's real but, as DQ suggested, the "monitoring" is BS to mollify the morons, a.k.a. Texans

But wait for all the Texas "Patriots" to come out to "assist" the Texas Guard. You know that's going to happen.

Maybe they would feel better if all the military installations in Texas were closed.

In an open letter to the commander of the state guard on Tuesday, Abbott praised the members of the U.S. military, but directed the Texas State Guard to monitor the exercise to ensure that the military did not violate Texans' rights.

"During the training operation, it is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed," Abbott said

The governor's decision to deploy state troops comes after a series of bizarre conspiracy theories began circulating several weeks ago on conservative sites and right wing radio. A post on Teaparty.org claims that in more than 15 Texas cities special forces troops will try to blend in undetected among civilian populations to prepare for the imposition of martial law.

There were black helicopters in the air late last night. Thank God the Governor and Rand Paul are going to save us.

We should have let them secede in 1861 when we had the opportunity.
