Baltimore Mom Not Having Any Of This Shit.

I'm sure everybody's seen it or at least heard about it by now. It may be the fastest growing viral video ever at this point. But here's a mother who would not sir around and watch it anymore...

Wasillaguy 04-28-2015 01:31 PM

But she's striking her child!
No corporal punishment! He will be scarred for life!
And she's humiliating him in front of his buddies! Oh the psychological impact will never go away!

Oh the mindless sarcasm. Too bad you your momma never whipped your ass when you were acting like an ignorant fuckstick.

finnbow 04-28-2015 02:01 PM

It's too bad that several hundred other Baltimore mothers didn't do the same.

not sure why no one else noticed this

would the kid have been out there in the first place if he had not learned from mom how to handle adversity with violence?

Yeah, I know not many think like I do on this but I see a lot of negative in this women smacking around her kid like this.

The reaction to this video shows the lack of though that comes from the average Joe. Everyone thinks the women is a hero.

Me... I am glad she cared enough to take action to stop her son, I wish she would have evolved better coping mechanisms to do so.

Go ahead, you can all pile on me now.

I guess I need to say at this point that most of us in the business, as a general rule, find physical interventions, hitting, slapping, spanking, belts, boards, chains, wrenches ("...the wrench, why the wrench? Because fuck him that's why."), pushups, situps, running in place, any sort of physical punishment as completely and utterly unnecessary, and in the long run...counter productive. It's also psychic trauma. And in many, if not most cases, abusive. What millions of American parents do to their own children every day would get their ass thrown in jail were they to do the same to somebody else's children, first offense.

But there are a very limited number of exceptions...and this is one of them. Sometimes it's this or your kid ends up with a bullet in the top of his head, his spine severed, shot in the back 8 times, or choked to death on the street. Good on momma.

No argument really. Perhaps take a look at my post above. I'd be interested in your comments. If it's her standard parenting practice, that's not good. In this situation it's understandable. I'd probably slap my kid around as well in similar circumstances. She was understandably frantic and beside herself. As one familiar with being on the bottom of the pile hereabouts, hopefully you won't consider me the first on a pile.

Pio1980 04-28-2015 04:26 PM

Looks too old to be called a child, more like another mindless sheep following the flock.
There are definitely issues here and elsewhere, but this is no way to adress them, and the community has lost it's soon to be completed affordable senior residence facility..

1. I'm not a big fan of beatings.
2. Sometimes, expediency wins.

The kid didn't pop his mother. That implies there's some decency in there, somewhere.

Mob mentality is a real thing.

Everyone likes to see someone else's kid catching hell.

I have nothing ill to say of this parent and this action. I do not think it should be admired as it is but rather respected in intent.

Right. What with the widespread fear and loathing of 'violent ghetto black males,' this instance of 'kid catching hell' was particularly gratifying, which explains why it went viral.

I expect it's likely that the poor woman is mortified to be the subject of so much stereotype-validating voyerism.

I saw her on TV last night doing interviews. She obviously was happy to do them & liked the attention.
I know you would understand if your business was looted & burned to the ground, but your not the norm in this matter.

Sometimes I must admit that at times our progressivism comes creeping out sideways and we make assumptions without actual basis of fact. And we get a bit cynical about proud mothers refusing to let their children act like assholes. Or local residents creating a living barrier between local police and their neighbors. I suspect because they're sick of their neighborhood being burned down and they know it ain't the cops doing it.

No shit. At what point do some people realize a "time out" will no longer suffice?

I don't see a fucking thing going on in Baltimore that's hilarious, Dave.

And at 3:08, the Republican governor just has to play politics with it.

That woman slapping around her son for being an ass was hilarious. Good for her.:)

Dondilion 04-29-2015 08:15 AM

A mom sees a protest hijacked by militants and thieves tries to reclaim her son.

BTW he is wearing a mask. She reads him right...he has bad intentions.

I think the video serves a great purpose. It sends a message to other moms in the area telling them to take charge of their sons.

Zeke 04-29-2015 08:51 AM

So...

We praise a mother for manhandling her son because (relatively) minor illegal behavior is unacceptable yet bemoan police for directly confronting major events?

That's pretty slanted.

Because an officer bitch slappin' this punk -- as opposed to taking him to jail -- would have been crucified even though the result is the same.

And yes, when confronted with illegal activity, an officer has MORE right to bitch slap a thug than his mother because a mother just cares about her son. An officer has to care about everybody.

Interesting take.

Well, since I never praised this mom I guess I can insist police not murder shackled prisoners?

On a serious note, police are never justified in slapping around people. Subdue and cuff... no?

If an officer can slap a kid around like this, get his attention, and NOT get him buried in The System -- with effective result of stopping the activity and waking up a potential thug -- isn't this a "win?"

Like they cared about Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, etc., etc.

Zeke calling anybody or anything "slanted." Now there's irony rearing it's ugly, zit-covered head.

If an officer had bitch slapped them earlier, said offenders may not have received the treatment they EARNED, later.

Good for her, indeed. But it made me cringe that the woman felt left with no other option in the face of this behavior by her child. If this lends itself at all to keeping him out of a pack of gangbangers then it's a couple of slaps well served. If it doesn't he's fucked, and so is anybody he guns down.

But, you know, you wouldn't want an actually trained and empowered law enforcement professional to do that...

Fucking idiot...

Yeah. I mean, why is what this mother did to her son any different from what the cops did to Freddie Gray? Get real, people!

That's an interesting query...

As a definitive answer, I'd say that one has decidedly ceased any potential criminal activity and one is merely hope.

But that's not the answer your loaded question was seeking...

Her son is alive. Which I believe is different.

As I said the other day, it's the cop equivalent to the Bush Doctrine.

I did.

barbara 04-29-2015 10:27 AM

I understand why the mom did what she did in the heat of the moment. But I don't think behaving like a thug and hitting your child is a good way to teach the child not to be a thug.
On the other hand..... That "child" looked to be old enough to know better.

Ever caught your child masked and participating in a mob action, eh barbara? How TF do you know how you would "behave?"

What are you saying here, Ike? That, the more more violent the offense, the more violent the punishment?

Or are you saying that the mother should be "excused" for a violent over-reaction since the activities of her son were so extreme?

Wasillaguy 04-29-2015 11:39 AM

He was definitely old enough to know better. And who should have taught him when he was younger?
So Mom did good this time, but probably not so great earlier on, or he wouldn't have been out there to begin with.

And I certainly hope he will still get charged. No excuse, his identity is known and his mother has already stated she saw him on TV chucking rocks at cops.

I don't think you could find a study that would support such a correlation. Then of course you have the problem of police abusing such a policy if we had one. Like letting teachers beat the hell out of kids.

I saw bones broken in the classroom by teachers... I saw no kids learning from this as it never ended the behaviors or pummeling. Well, except on occasion, a teacher learned to keep his hands to himself after a particularly brutal assault.
