Florida deputy stops black man on bike, shoots him 4 seconds later

What can I say?

This is outrageous.

Cops are way way way out of control in this country.

On the last morning of the last day Dontrell Stephens could still walk, the 20-year-old was bicycling across Haverhill Road, talking to a friend on a cellphone.

A truck slowed as he rode against traffic.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy Adams Lin was watching schoolchildren waiting for a bus.

Later, he would say he followed Stephens to give him a traffic ticket for not bicycling properly. But he also would acknowledge he was suspicious of Stephens, whom he had not seen in the neighborhood before that morning, according to court records.

He intended to stop him, ask for identification and find out where he had come from and where he was going. He considered frisking him. But Lin, who is of Asian descent, denied racially profiling Stephens, who is black, and wore his hair in long dreadlocks.
Dashcam video shows fatal shooting of Dontrell Stephens

Dashcam footage shows Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy Adams Lin following, then fatally shooting, Dontrell Stephens. Warning: this footage could be disturbing to some.

I say...save this country tons of court costs. Shoot all suspects. If you can't shoot them, stomp them until you break their spine, or choke the life outta them. It's so much more cost effective. (Right up until the civil suit. Just ask Karolina Obryka, who is 850 large richer thanks to big tough fat drunk Anthony Abbate.)

This guy was shot at age 20 and now faces the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

There is no amount of money that can make up for that IMO.

That being said, I hope he gets awarded a shitload.

This happened back in 2013, but apparently dashcam video just published.

If you try to run when a cop starts trying to kill you, that justifies him trying to kill you.

Cleared by internal affairs. Nothing here. Saved you the trouoble, Zeke.... :(

Apparently the Police have been able to get away with a lot of shit in the past.

But the Michael Brown shooting has stirred things up to where they are now under a lot more scrutiny.

sheltiedave 04-25-2015 07:38 PM

Yea, Michael Brown was over and buried after six months.

RIGHT

It was over ten seconds later.

Repeat. Deleted.

That's a pretty fucked up thing to say about anyone's death.

Was referring to any potential change in policing.

Not going to happen.

If you say so.

The trouble is, the subject of a "potential change in policing" hasn't been mentioned in this thread.

Zeke 04-25-2015 11:25 PM

So, you didn't read posts 2 and 5?

Or you lack inference capabilities?

You're a fart in the wind Zeke. Just like the anti-gay marriage crowd. The tide is turning.

Fuckin' smartphones, eh?

Zeke 04-26-2015 12:40 PM

We KNOW you lack inference capabilities.

Appropriately, nothing is changing (see the above mentioned case).

This one is only a month old.

Officer Peter Delio was caught on surveillance video kneeing a man in the stomach while he was sitting in a holding cell in August of 2014.

According to his arrest report, Delio could be heard on the video saying, "get up scumbag, do you want to be a tough guy?"

The man, identified as Robert Liese, was injured so badly he had to undergo surgery for a ruptured spleen.

Cops are particularly tough guys when you're in an interview room or holding cell. You get slammed, kicked, kneed...if you're lucky just slapped around some. My brother got bounced off a cinder block wall a couple of times...after which they threw his cane back in the room with him so's he could get up off the floor, and left him alone to bleed on his shirt for a couple of hours.

Zeke 04-27-2015 10:22 AM

I'm a supporter of whatever is necessary to get an offender into custody as quickly and with as much general safety as THEY allow officers and the law abiding public.

Once an offender is in custody? That's completely different. At that point, the city, municipality, county, state, feds or etcetera is wholly responsible for someone's well being.

Some folks have tried to mediate when custody begins and that has proven malleable on occasion case per case but you get the idea.

Ike Bana 04-27-2015 11:45 AM

In my brother's case, one cop kicked his cane into a privet hedge, a second threw him face down in the gutter and a third put a knee on the back of his head. The fourth cop didn't slam his pathetic disabled ass into the cinder block wall until he was at the station.

Zeke 04-27-2015 12:27 PM

Depending -- I wasn't there and am speaking in generalities -- the first three could be rationalized as necessary in certain situations (I've been there).

The latter? NEVER.

He obviously failed to comply with something. Nobody has ever been shot by police without indisputable cause.

No, I am serious. Does anyone know what the cop claimed?

The video seems straight forward attempted murder.

thank if anyone knows

And I'm serious as cancer. Unless the kid whipped out a glock, a machete, or a stinger missle launcher.

The point is that in this joint there are two sides to the argument, and one of them is simply...comply or die.

noonereal 04-27-2015 05:57 PM

1) why did the officer chase the kid causing him to jump off the bike?

2) what was in the kids right hand? I saw something in the video.

3) what happened out of camera? What do both sides say?
