Getting there

Slow but sure, today I installed another recessed light fixture. Tomorrow I may build the second bookcase. Four more light fixtures to go then lotsa painting.

Moved Grandmother and Grandfather as I decided to place the bookcases on the front wall, can take them down come paint time. That light fixture has to be changed but that is not easy in the dark.:)

Nice work. I'm sick of home improvement work.

finnbow 04-01-2015 02:55 PM

Nice, Rob. The unfinished room(s) must be stacked to the ceiling with stuff. Mine certainly are.

noonereal 04-01-2015 03:23 PM

nice Rob.

CarlV 04-01-2015 03:51 PM

Excellent Rob! :)

Looking great. :)

They were my paternal grandparents and on the other three walls there are four generations of both lines. Today I will bring down the second bookcase and assemble it. Yes Pat my workshop is stacked and so is the laundry, When everything is in place in this Playroom I have the materials in the garage to wall off the laundry from the workshop.

We had to pull that light fixture in the last photo as it was right where the T rail had to go. I will simply remove the porcelain socket and put a blank cover on the box as that circuit also feeds the acid neutralizer in the closet with the louvered door

merrylander 04-04-2015 08:15 AM

Got the second bookcase together, those sucker weight over 100 pounds each.

Rob, the finish on those looks like some of the Yamahas you have done. Did you make them shine?

Regards,

D-Ray

Nope Don they are Bush Business Furniture, a very good knock down furniture kit. The Bush company is one of the better ones and no relation to Dubya AFAIK.

What kind of seat ist that? Stair lift? Mummy has two stair lifts, they cost a bunch of money, but we urgently had to purchase them.

Yes Chris, some years back Florence fell down the stairs. As luck would have it apart from bruises and aches she did not break any bones. I was not about to see that happen again so we called Acorn. Their first price was $17,500.00 and when the salesman saw the look on my face he called his boss. So then the price came down to $13,500.00. I did some research and found these chair lifts at a Medical Supply house. They are made here and I was quoted $6,500.00 for all four. Our staircases have a landing and a 90 degree turn part way up. I sent them the measurements and a week later the salesman called and said they were on the way. I said but we have not paid you I will send a check right away. He said that he thought we were paying by credit card so he took $500 off. They are made by Summit but I installed them myself. Since the motors are DC they have brushes and one day one chair simply stopped so I replaced the brushes and it is good as gold.:)

Thank you Rob for this picture. It is interesting. So Florence is actually not in the second floor yet when the stair lift is up? We had exactly the same situation. So we needed a stair lift with a curve. This made it more expensive than the second stair lift which goes down to the basement.

It is sooooooo great that your Florence has a stair lift! This makes her feeling safe for sure!

:)

Yes the curved ones are indeed expensive and also take a lot of room at the curve. These lifts we have are equipped with Call/Send switches at either end so if the chair is on the 1st floor and she is on the 2nd she can 'call' it, or I can 'send' it.

Looks like this.

Mummy got four remote controls in brackets. One mounted on the bottom of the lifts, and one on the top of the lifts. They are security devices - used for example in the case that the switch on the seat does not work, which never happened before. The seats also have an accumulator supply so that they also work in during a power failure (thunder storm etc.)

The Acorn model were that way but our Summit model is not, However during an extended power failure I can have our 8KW emergency generator operating in about 10 minutes so that is not a problem.

Well no work today as my hand is rather sore. Went out to feed Gabby the feral tom that recently adopted us. I was petting him with both hands and I guess he though I was going to grab him and the little bugger bit me between thumb and forefinger.

HarmanKardon 04-06-2015 12:34 PM

Take care my dear friend! Do not overstrain your body!

merrylander 04-06-2015 03:37 PM

Last evening we heard some orchestra playing the Intermezzo from Cavalaria Rusticana. Now I remember my Dad singing a hymn at Easter solo that was sung to the melody of its second melodic line but search engines don't come up with a thing. Please all you musicologists help me out.

Fat chance Chris it is getting so that even I use the chair lifts now.:):)

HarmanKardon 04-08-2015 01:42 AM

Well - I have stored quite a lot of vintage audio gear in the second floor of Mummy's house, and several times I used the stair lifts in order to lift up heavy stuff! ;)

merrylander 04-08-2015 08:28 AM

We deliberately picked the model with the wide armrests so that it carries the laundry baskets up and down. When I was still restoring audio gear many a heavy unit rode the chairs.

Yep, my G9000DB made the trip a couple of times at Chez Florence. ;)

Hey Pat she found some old color slides of her flying days back when she was teaching in Japan. Flew out of Chofu airport near Tokyo.

CarlV 04-09-2015 03:45 PM

I am jealous of your stairlifts, I still am sleeping downstairs since my surgeries last year.

Thanks Chris I was going to do the rest today but Florence had a pretty bad fall the other day. Nothing broken but bruises and pain she has, so I will do the shopping today.
