The Plot Against The ACA and America

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/05/op...ourt.html?_r=0

Looks like a cabal wants to run roughshod over our newly insured Americans.

merrylander 02-05-2015 02:09 PM

Because we are not dying off fast enough I guess.

Tom Joad 02-05-2015 02:42 PM

I'll be really surprised if the Supreme court finds those subsidies unlawful.

Because all that subsidy money is winding up in the coffers of the Insurance companies and I figure they've given Roberts and company their marching orders to let them stand.

If the SCOTUS guts the ACA, I think the GOP will ultimately be the loser. Millions will lose their insurance as Boehner tries to herd cats in the House in a futile, ugly effort to get them their insurance back. I bet the GOP establishment is actually hoping the SCOTUS will rule in favor of retaining the ACA as it will preclude the ugly, and perhaps futile, sausage-making that will follow.

Yeah, but how many times before have we all said similar things yet the GOPers continue to roll right along.

I have $100 that says the Supreme Court rules for the government position in this case.

Is that the amount of your subsidy? :D JK

Many republicans don't want the ACA overturned any more than they want Roe v. Wade overturned. It gives the base something to rally around and remain distracted from other important governmental matters. They would miss having Obamacare to rail against.

There is a possibilty that millions could lose their health care because a minority of the court actually buys the argument that the plaintiffs were damaged because they were eligible for subsidized health care under the Medicare expansion. Remember the lynchpin who can make the minority the majority, Roberts, was appointed by the same guy who wanted to make Iraq a democracy. You know the result of that mistake.

Well that would make the hypocrisy worse than ever.

And a reminder of how important it is to retain the Presidency, for this and for a more progressive SCOTUS.

Most of them are millionaires too....and I bet they still buy the government insurance.
It really shows how stupid Republicans must be....wanting to take away the rule where you cannot deny people insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Even it they are cynical,
like Rand Paul being against vaccinations although he is a doctor just because he may get some votes, it is still an obscene stance to take. It is hard to believe but denying truth and lying to people about Obamacare, a sort of exercise in Orwellian doublethought and doublespeak, is ok as long as votes can be won.

In real life I do not meet the stupid people Fox News is after but I guess they exist somewhere.

Oh in December I was at the Navy Hospital getting some new insulin. The Navy PA I have is very good.
But he was making critical remarks about Obamacare while at the same time prescribing me medicine which I did not have to a pay for. I wanted to point out that Obamacare would probably increase employment opportunities for PAs and Nurse Practitioners but you don't argue with a man giving you "free" insulin.

Tom Joad 02-09-2015 02:24 PM

The Supreme Court case that could dismantle Obamacare, King v. Burwell, has at its core one plaintiff who called President Barack Obama the "anti-Christ" and another who doesn't want to see anyone lose their health insurance and isn't sure how she became part of the case in the first place.

Is soliciting someone to be a party to a suit, while remaining silent (at least) about the issues and implications of it, barratry?

donquixote99 02-09-2015 03:52 PM

I read this column back last Nov, but forgot about it. It makes the case that this represnets a naked ploy by the Supreme Court's conservatives to have another go at Obamacare, since they missed whacking it the first time. The question is, will Roberts buckle under pressure to 'atone' for his 'wrong' vote the first time?

No one having taken me up on the $100 bet, I think I'd better withdraw it....

Free to be strapped to the yoke for life, if they don't at least support Medicare.
Why in the hell ANYONE would favor a system that cuts you off because you've lost your job or grown too old to work is beyond me.

In some ways it really does not affect us because our supplemental health insurance is not via ACA. But it takes a really cold hearted SOB to cut the ground out from under the folks in the ACA.
