Carolyn Kizer passes at 89

Pulitzer prize winning poet Carolyn Kizer passed away Thursday at 89.

“Doctor, I’ll say,” she writes in “Afternoon Happiness,”
"I’m supposed to be a poet.
All life’s awfulness has been grist to me.
We learn that happiness is a Chinese meal,
While sorrow is a nourishment forever.
My new environment is California Dreamer.
I’m fearful I’m forgetting how to brood.
And, Doctor, another thing has got me worried:
I’m not drinking as much as I should ..."

Rest in Peace dear lady.

Death is always a tragedy.

'Do not go gentle into that good night!'

^^^from a poem

"I knew a man, his brain so small
He couldn't think of nothing at all
He's not the same as you and me
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas
Whoever he was
The man ain't got no culture"

^^^from a song

Right.

I can tell by the sample of her poetry that this was one very serious old broad who would want everybody to dress in black and put on a long face at her funeral.

The emotional vagaries and subtleties of living with a complicated woman. Apparently your strong suit, eh TJ?

I read the whole poem to the blonde. We thought it was one of the funnier pieces of poetry we've read in quite a while.
