Adios plastic grocery bags in California

http://www.latimes.com/local/politic...929-story.html

:) Single use bags banned.

donquixote99 09-30-2014 04:22 PM

Dang it. If they do that here, I'll have to BUY bags to pick up the dog poop with.

But they are very damaging as litter, so I guess I can see it....

They're working on doing that here (Dallas) due to various reasons including environmental. I think it's a capitalist/government plot to have me buy trash bags and a grocery sack or two.

bobabode 09-30-2014 05:39 PM

Those reusables are 'FREEDOM Bags'! ;)

hillbilly 09-30-2014 07:19 PM

If they'd get rid of them here I'd be glad. Paper products light easy, burn up quick and don't stink half a day like plastic bags and bottles.

donquixote99 09-30-2014 07:25 PM

OTOH, non-biodegradable plastic sequesters carbon. Isn't it good to do that?

barbara 09-30-2014 08:03 PM

Thank goodness!
Now I won't feel pressured at the grocery store when asked, "paper or plastic?" 😄

merrylander 10-01-2014 07:27 AM

They encourage the use of fabric bags here by giving a nickle off for every reusable bag you bring.

That's what I use them for too. Doing so eliminates the "single use" monker. :)

Picking up dog poop with paper bags is gross. Especially when you have to "comb" the loose stools out of the grass.

Rajoo 10-01-2014 11:29 AM

A particular specialty grocery store I go to charges ten cents for reusable plastic bags. Of course every time I go there, I forget to bring a bag with me paying another ten cents. So this is like the five cent recycle deposit one pays here.

I am afraid other stores are going to follow suit. Overall though still think it is a good idea to eliminate throw away plastic bags.

Trick or treat?

Our local paper is A) a right wing propaganda rag and B) 85% advertising.

The advertising part was more offensive than the RW propaganda simply because I was mostly paying for advertising, so I cancelled the paper. I also cancelled cable because while programming was pretty much crap, the bulk was advertising and I refuse to pay a company to pump advertising into my living room.

I now have a digital antenna which brings in four local stations and three public stations. I also stream Netflicks and buy used movies from Family video for 5 bucks a pop.

Cats = devil spawn and I'm a godly sort.

Hey MrP I ditched cable years ago and use the antenna and Netflix.

You can rent movies off Vudu too, a good rental site that also gets new TopGear pretty quick.

I'm liking it. I no longer spend much time sitting in front of the TV mindlessly watching crap. I'm much more productive :D
