Reports from multiple witnesses that the guy was saying "shoot me now" "kill me" as the cops were shouting for him to drop the knife.

Did this guy have his own personal problems, or did he sacrifice himself to throw gasoline on the entitlement riots?

Suicide by cop happens a lot more frequently than the public might realize.

Read the article. Thread title and OP's last sentence are inflammatory. and the only witnesses mentioned in the article are the two police officers who gunned the citizen down.

Find another source and read another article, repeat as needed.

I don't know if the thread title, in and of itself, is inflammatory. Seems to me it's come to be a fairly accurate common term to describe an increasingly common self-destructive behavior. And the police are the ones traumatized by it.

Not dissimilar from the traumatic experience that railroad locomotive engineers experience every time somebody walks out and stands between the rails in front of an oncoming train.

I worked for a time on a critical incident debriefing team where one of the populations we worked with were engineers from "suicide trains". Some of these guys never got over it...particularly the ones who were unfortunate enough to make eye contact with the victim just before impact. Jezuz...I can't imagine...

Oh c'mon man. Entitlement riots? Looters/arsonists and public assistance recipients are pretty much mutually exclusive groups.

Well, they're getting bigger than just Ferguson, so I wasn't sure what to call them. St. Louis riots? The way the flames are being stoked, it's gonna be nation-wide here in a couple more days, so we'll be renaming it again.

I didn't realize the meme was already spoken for, referring to when our debt finally collapses all entitlements (that's gonna be fun).
I just thought it was a good descriptive name as it all seems to be about what people feel they're entitled to- cigarillos, walking down the middle of the street disrupting traffic, liquor, beef, cigarettes, attention, exemption from scrutiny, a boost in their media career, a boost in their political career, protection at the police command center while simultaneously bad-mouthing them to the world, etc.

If you had to spend a lot of time in a tiny bunker, she wouldn't be a bad choice for a buddy. The woman is very small, almost Lilliputian. Duct tape over the mouth would be mandatory though.

In a little fairness to Was the Chief of Police was asked that same question at the press conference which took place at the scene. In 1992 I was in San Diego on a port stop and saw a guy downtown pull a knife out in front of a cop right on the street. The policeman pulled out his revolver right away and the guy dropped the knife.

Cops will shoot if you have a knife since they can cause great damage, especially if the person welding it is unstable. Is anyone who welds a knife stable anyway lol. I mean outside of self-defense.

When they were talking about Ferguson one analyst said that since the towns became more African American and poorer the white establishment began to rely on traffic citations as a means of revenue to keep the local government and police coffers full. I wonder if everyone in Ferguson is constantly being pulled over and given traffic tickets. Then I wondered if they have traffic cams there. Would not be surprised.

What you need is a gov contract to supply bunkers to those who can't afford one.
