Why would anyone want to take your guns?

Another responsible gun owner. Just exercising his rights.

They're law abiding citizens, exercising their rights. Responsible gun owners. Right up to the part where they shoot each other. Good thing they had protection!

Fast_Eddie 06-17-2014 10:54 AM

Here's the thing. Gun rights are not being restricted. In fact, there are more and more laws allowing gun owners to carry their weapons all over the place. And they're encouraging people to buy more guns. And each and every one of them is an accident waiting to happen. You're 43 times more likely to shoot a family member than an intruder. The gun fetishists are getting out of control. Its time for reasonable limits.

Dondilion 06-17-2014 10:57 AM

It is not about guns. It is about mental health. Modern living is very stressful.

Fast_Eddie 06-17-2014 11:00 AM

Read some of those stories before you toss out your trite talking points. The moron who laser sighted his nephew with a round in the chamber wasn't crazy. He was a responsible gun owner!

Guns don't kill people. Gun owners do.

Exactly!

There are no mentally ill in all those other countries with low gun violence.

😏

Fast_Eddie 06-17-2014 11:05 AM

Maybe if modern life is so stressful, we shouldn't have so many guns lying around.

JBS... 06-17-2014 11:05 AM

I want to go on record right now!

I'm sick of my rights to obtain, hold and carry firearms. I mean shit this is 2014 not 1787

Earlier today, I threw all my entire firearm collection into Lake Superior ;)

piece-itpete 06-17-2014 11:05 AM

Has overall gun violence increased or decreased since the liberalization of CCW?

Pete

Fast_Eddie 06-17-2014 11:07 AM

Turns out, people with guns end up using them. And people die.

http://youngprogressivevoices.net/gu...uicide-murder/

That gun you use to "protect" your family is increasing their likelihood of being murdered.

"Meanwhile, for all the talk about good guys with guns protecting us from bad guys with guns, the "decrease" in gun violence ended in 2002, while the number of states that now issue CCW has roughly doubled since 2002. The NRA's notion that we are a much safer country now that residents of every state can apply for CCW falls flat on its face, even when we look at the data that the NRA uses to prove its own case."

piece-itpete 06-17-2014 11:14 AM

Individual stories cut both ways.

I'd prefer to see the overall trends.

We'd probably agree on programs to calm people down :)

American Rifleman. Looks like an objective source.

Oh, I see. It's from the NRA. Sorry, I should have posted this:

Oh, wait. I did.

See, that is looking at over-all trends.

Hence my belief that the more "freedom" they have to get carried away with it the more likely it is that there will, eventually, be a crackdown.

We call this "SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY".

For you "pro-gun" rightwingers;

As you've been telling me for years..................

It's kind if like too much "freedom" for organized labor. The further they pushed their cause to extremes, the more damaging they became to their own cause.

There. Do you get it, now?

Either there truly aren't any mentally ill in those countries, or they keep them all locked up in the nuthouse. Which would also explain their lack of paranoid right wingers at the voting booths.:p

Let me tell you all about it...

Well hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ole fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

That blog posts its' sources.

So the Huff Post article says things have stayed the same? What difference does it make then?

It will make a difference when one of those guns is used on someone you care about.

The same state of affairs I outlined earlier- where guns end up killing the wrong people and arming the gangs. The downsides were already well stated and still in place. DJ's article shows us that even a gun control island is having an impact.

As Pete said:

You can post anecdotes all you like (as did I) but the facts are pretty clear. If you keep a gun in your house, it's not real likely to be used to "protect" anyone, and far more likely to shoot a member of your family. Or be stolen to arm a "bad guy".
