My heart is trying to kill me.

EVERY spring I get motorcycle fever and EVERY time my brain talks me out of it. This has gone on since I sold my first and last bike decades ago.

But now that I'm a teetotaler my brain doesn't have the easy out reasoning that previously trumped emotion.

It appears I can get a really nice midsized Japanese bike for a couple grand.

I've always been something of a natural on 2 wheels (thanks mom and dad) so experience is not a dealbreaker. Any thoughts? All appreciated.

Pete

Every spring I want to trade in my 15 YO Tahoe for something new too. I practically invent problems with it. By July it usually passes and I wonder what I was thinking....

;) Give it up ya old fart. Some older fart than you will just pull a left in front of you and you'll end up as highway pizza. I miss my old KZ650 too but I ain't getting back in the saddle. No fuckin' way. Too many idjits on the road these days.

BlueStreak 05-23-2014 02:14 PM

Every 13th I make the payment on the Mighty Bluestreak and think, "This thing is killing me, I really need to get rid of it."

But, there she sits, Pete. Every time I drop the hammer and feel that massive rush of power, my heart skips a beat......................

If you can muster up the 2gs, go get that bike. You only live once.

:D

The angel of Bob on one shoulder, the devil of Dave on the other! What a picture lol.

My problem? is that I live on the edge of a national forest and know all the backroads I can putter down. I also know a handful of utility access roads. Also the SO is actually on board with it. See heart talking fast. I know how thick 4 wheel drivers can be.

Mr Pots I get that often and currently am fighting selling my little truck, even though I know I shouldn't! But I could get something else :)

Decide for yourself if your skill at riding is enough to overcome the idiocy we see from other motorists. You're not planning on texting while riding are you?

You would get a helluva lot better mileage than the land yachts you are so find of.

Regards,

D-Ray

I hate to break it ya Pete but you're old and yer bones are brittle. :D Save yer pennies and get a Cobra kit car.

Bob..............

It's like falling down the rabbit hole Dave :D

D you're an enabler! One of my arguments is that I can save $5+ every time I drive it to work (backroads), and in northeastern Ohio that should add up to at least $10 a year.

I was shopping another Harley when this VTX-1800 custom sport touring cruiser showed up F/S at the Corbin exhibit at the Honda Hoot in Knoxville 2005, paid cash and rode it home. Had to go back for the Gold Wing I left at the motel.

Corbin originally put it together earlier for Sturges 2005, here's a pic someone took of it there;

Helluva a ride Steve. :)

Sweet bike! Love the color.

If my kids didn't rely on me being alive I would absolutely have a bike.

No problem here. IE with AVG is what I'm using.

mpholland 05-23-2014 07:48 PM

Funny thing about malware...it usually gives you more malware warnings than malware protection software does, but that's the hook.

Yep that's why I like old bikes and spoked rims sitting up straight. Old Triumph's and bobbers, Bob even mentioned KZ 650 and Yammi 650s where nice bikes.

http://n0nb.us/blog/wp-content/uploa...1/06/650-1.jpg

They were some of the fastest bikes on the street till the KZ 1000 came along.

Then all hell broke loose and bikes turned crazy and where did the spokes go.:(

Pio1980 05-23-2014 10:22 PM

Spokes went for tubeless tires, I'm OK with that.

Do not get the bike Pete......I x-rayed a 19 year old dead kid once from a MC accident.
I myself had a front wheel blow out on a Honda CB 350-4 back in 1988 I did not get killed because the car was coming at me was a 1000 yards away instead of 100 yards...

getting killed is the not worst thing either....you could be paralyzed from the neck down.
And at your age a bad crash could be an early admission to a nursing home.

I concure with Ice,My brother had the side of his head taken off by a hook on a garbage truck when he lost control after a rain storm,I witnesed it it was not a good thing to see,I have never rode since but that is just my feelings ,you are a grown man to make your own,but at least you might be more cautious.

Pretty sure I have shown this picture before, but I can't remember. This was my son's bike that damn near killed him a few years ago when someone turned left in front of him. His body suffered just as bad and I think the Navy spent near a million to put him back together, as the first bill I remember seeing was for over 300K, and that was fairly early on. The wreck also cost him his Navy career as he was medically discharged after 14 years as he was undeployable. Suffice it to say 9 months later he bought another GSXR1000 that was a few years newer. A while later he bought himself a Hayabusa. Last year he bought a 2014 Street Glide. He still has all three of them in his garage. I will be going down to Phoenix in June to watch him graduate from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute where he has been for the last 3 years.

I guess the point here is that if it is in your blood, it is in your blood. If you feel you are truly missing out then go for it. If you have less passion and can live without it then go that route. Just make the decision rationally and don't live with regret.

By the way Mods, the site is forcing capitals to lowercase again. I thoroughly checked my above post for proper grammar before I submitted it.

Don't do it Pete.

You'll fuck yourself up and end up in a wheelchair like Stephen Hawking except that you will have brain damage too. Then I'll have to support you with my tax dollars by way of a big government program for the disabled

It's the same way with all these damned bikers.

They are big libertarians until the odds catch up with them. Then they become so************************ts overnight.

icenine 05-26-2014 02:25 PM

Pete I was actually on my way to Barberton when it happened...now that I think about it I was on the 303 or whatever that two lane state route is that used to go by the old Coliseum in Richfield. I still cannot get over the fact that they tore that place down. I saw the Ringling Brothers Circus there with my dad and I saw the Who there twice.

This is why I hate my generation;

They were all big "Reagan Republicans" back in the eighties. Now that were all moving into old fartdom a right many of them are changing their tunes, realizing that "...........those people who suck the government teat."------

------IS THEM.

Dave

BlueStreak 05-26-2014 07:42 PM

Go buy the bike, Pete. Grow a set, live your life, don't listen to the caution police.

Dave

piece-itpete 05-28-2014 12:18 PM

Steven Hawking with brain damage rotflmao!!

I know it's serious. I know quite a few folks who messed themselves up on bikes. One guy drove BSAs, lost the use of an arm in an accident (his fault), rigged up the controls and kept driving - drunk 99% of the time. Caution: Don't drink and drive your bike with one arm. Words to live by.

Many thanks for all the comments. In the best tradition of our political system I have decided! To kick the can to next spring :)

Oh shit.

I voted for Reagan back then too. :o

One of my many sins for which the God I don't believe in will certainly punish me for.
