I don't mind paying taxes as long as the money is being used wisely and efficiently.

Ohio, #32, +9%

I suspect my state is number one, I get to fart downwind towards the east. ;)

No way!

We have the best schools in the country so we get what we pay for. Despite all the moaning by Repubs about unfriendly to business they still locate here because of a well educated workforce.

BlueStreak 03-19-2014 06:13 PM

Another aspect the link fails to mention is population density. More people equals higher demand for infrastructure and public services. Of course taxes are low in Wyoming, it is mostly empty space. And, likewise New York and California are our most populous states, so...................

#2, and #4 with COL/income figured in.
When we get some oil flowing again in this state, we'll take #1

The two most liberal states have the highest taxes, Go figure...

bobabode 03-19-2014 08:09 PM

I wonder how low state taxes correlates to being a moocher red state that takes more than it gives. Alaska anyone?

The important correlation to me is the one cited in the study. My kids have a better chance of success here. I'd move back to California if that's where my family could thrive.

icenine 03-20-2014 01:09 AM

HMMM many of the red states with low taxes get much money back from the Federal Government...Alaska is a prime example

all the bagger states hate Uncle Sugar but are sucking on the teat...

Real Americans can find a way to "thrive" anywhere. ;)

In fact, I refer you to this map that shows state politics and tax levels don't seem to matter much;

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-w...-state-2013-11

And, this one, that shows the two most liberal states also generate more highly successful individuals than any other state in the union:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...f_billionaires

If I were you, I'd get my kids OUT of Alaska. It's also neck-n-neck with another red state, Wyoming, as the nations leader in SAD cases and suicide rate;

Have a great day!

I don't think so. The high tax states have the best schools and universities. I'd much rather raise kids in Maryland than Mississippi, for example.

Ike Bana 03-20-2014 07:57 AM

We own homes in suburban Chicago and also in the dunes over in Porter County, Indiana. If the tax situation was the only reason for choosing a legal residence, we would obviously immediately go with the latter. But it ain't.

The way Indiana is run, if I were a voter there I'd be retching my guts out daily and it's definitely not worth it.

BlueStreak 03-20-2014 09:57 AM

The taxes in North Carolina are lower than Virginia. But, the better jobs are here. And Virginia isn't nearly as loaded up with the far right mental cases as NC is. Oh, we have them, but we keep them under control.

And they wonder why all us NY public workers take our pensions and run out of this state.

Much less than other states actually. Its the typical retirement Ponzi scheme but with new hires funding the system their entire career it will get even better in years to come.

Problem is once you retire you can't afford to stay in the state if you want to. Between local, county, state, and sales tax your driven right out.

To states where few, if any, people have pensions.

(Think about that.)

Ohhhh, it's a "Ponzi scheme", is it? It's a criminal sham foisted upon the taxpayer, eh? Well, then I guess you will certainly do the highly moral and patriotic American thing and refuse yours, right?

Thinking about it, most retirees I know move to Florida and they have a pension system. ???

My point is the state job itself with the pension (no matter how or who funded that itself) was made possible by the citizens of said state. I do not see it as unreasonable that the state should in turn collect enough revenue to keep services going.

When I hear people bitch about high wages here and pension benefits there, I let them say their piece.........

.......then I ask them; "Really? So, where do I apply?"

Most of these fools know damn well if they saw a hiring sign outside the business that pays strong salaries and great benefits, especially if it offers a lifetime pension, they'd apply in a heart-beat. They're lying if they tell you they wouldn't. They're full of shit, Robbin, they just don't want each other to know it.;)
