Despicable despots and regimes
Strangely, and to our genuine collective credit, there was actually an adult and calm conversation about Nazis here. I find this topic interesting.
It was perhaps rightly mentioned that it was in the wrong thread. So, here's a place. A fair warning, I've seen these discussions devolve into nightmares. Not as a mod but as the thread starter, if this thread goes by some bad reverse Godwins law type thing I'm deleting it and poxing anyone who does it ;) Pete |
How about, mass murder by race: Hitler, mass murder by class: Mao, mass murder at random: Stalin?
This got deleted off RTs' website btw, they got pissed that Stain was being badmouthed. Pete |
Unfortunately, we've supported our share of murderous despots throughout the (Cold War) years in the Mideast and throughout Central and South America.

Zzzzzzzzzz. Snore. :D You forgot Reagan, Pete.

Checking out a Nature program, 'The River Shannon' right now. PocHat is just the background noise.;) |
Hey, get your leftie selves outta here! :p
Though I've got to admit, I've never had Reagan put on par with Stalin. Might be a stretch. Pete |

In Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador they might disagree with you Pete. Maybe Ollie North will drop by to enlighten us as to why Reagan had to promote those dirty wars in the '80s. Too bad Archbishop Romero isn't around to rebut Ollie.:( |

But leave out Obamas droning of Americans. |
The Cold War realpolitik? At the time Russia & China were supplying NK.
Pete |
And perhaps we should go back before Reagan, see what the Dem Pres's did.

So this is a partisan thread about which party had a hand in killing more people? Like I said in my first post here. Zzzzzzzzzz, snore.
Next thing we will be hearing about the how the Dems fostered Khmer Rouge. |

Who brought up the Gipper there bub? ;) It was actually a place to extend what I thought was the very good conversation between mostly DQ and ice about Hitler, but I didn't want to use Nazi or Hitler in the thread title. Pete |
But of course discuss away, might be good in its' own right, right? :o

[enter beauty sleep joke here]
Good night, hope it works! :D Pete |
Are you ready to delete the thread now, Pete?
|
Nah, nobody's called each other Nazis yet :p The last thing I think any of us want is to become another screeching political site. They're a dime a dozen.
Pete |
Btw, would you like me to move some of those posts here?
Pete |
Not really. the thing actually had run it's course for the moment I think.
Of course, if you really want to discuss Nazis, say something about them. You could try claiming they were soc*alists, for example. Or I'll argue with a red lefty who want's to claim they were Christians.... |
Lets say they were sochialist Christians :)
They did try to play both roles propaganda wise at least I think. And the Hitler take of the Lords Prayer shows a LOT. "Adolf Hitler, you are our great Führer. Thy name makes the enemy tremble. Thy Third Reich comes, thy will alone is law upon the earth. Let us hear daily thy voice and order us by thy leadership, for we will obey to the end and even with our lives. We praise thee! Hail Hitler!" "Führer, my Führer, give me by God. Protect and preserve my life for long. You saved Germany in time of need. I thank you for my daily bread. Be with me for a long time, do not leave me, Führer, my Führer, my faith, my light, Hail to my Führer!" http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar...j-timeline.htm According to some books I've read Rohm really believed in the sochialist aspect. Of course he was in the way later... Pete |
Gawd damn, where's a pride of lions when you need 'em. ;)
