The Senate.

35 seats running, 21 Dem, 14 GOP, GOP needs to net +6 to gain control, or the Dems need to net -6 to lose control :)

Party change of 6 out of 35 seems like a long shot to me, unscientific gut thought. But plenty of drama awaits. And this doesn't help:

"....

Of the 53 Democratic senators, it’s the nearly two dozen facing re-election this year who are causing jitters for Obama and the party. With control of the Senate at stake, many of those Democrats are actively seeking ways to distance themselves from a president who is deeply unpopular in their home states.

...."

An eternity to go though.

It's OK. That always happens to lame duck presidents. No biggie, he's already going to get a library.
Hmmm, might have to take a vacation to Honolulu once they get it built. I've always wanted to see Pearl Harbor too. ;)

Beats me. Are we? Seems to me if anybody oughta be worried about the pachyderms getting control of anything, it's American women.

Pete

Agree and good post.

The GOP is very close to gaining the Senate and hence the comments.

Veto power is short term.
Executive Orders are short term.

Control of the Senate and Congress :D

Then the worry over 2016 will start.

piece-itpete 02-07-2014 09:20 AM

A never ending circus! More interesting than even cars imo :) I'd still be shocked if 6 out of 35 flipped though, it's the Senate.

Ike we plan on enslaving them and turning back the clock. We are going to force all of them to become riveters.

Pete

ha ha War on women.

I get paid very well I think, but my sisters and past girlfriends blow me away. One sister last year got a job review bonus that was more than half my years pay.

No way cars are definitely more interesting. We just need a change in economic policies so we can afford them again.

piece-itpete 02-07-2014 09:33 AM

I have a sis-in-law that for a few years got bonuses that equaled her yearly salary! She has a good job though. Imagine what that does for your living position.

If you could get knocked up, I suspect you wouldn't be quite so fucking glib. Ha-Ha my ass.

Why is it always about money and jobs with you cons, eh?

See my post above. I suspect women are more concerned with old conservative white men like you deciding if they can get contraceptives on their insurance plan, and worse, if old conservative white men like you have all the control over their bodies if the contraceptives happen to fail.

Then again...maybe if they're forced by you guys to have a vaginal ultrasound before they can get their abortion, you're hoping they'll let you perform all of them in your precinct, eh?

piece-itpete 02-07-2014 10:41 AM

I'm an old conservative white man LMAO!

Pete

MrPots 02-07-2014 10:49 AM

How about we cut off all the guys dicks so women don't have to worry about being strong pressured or forced into sex?

I am still not quite sure what all the fuss is about over contraceptives being available on an insurance plan. Let me see here, the right doesn't want abortions, doesn't want to spend money on social services, yet they are OK with bringing a bunch of unwanted children into the world because they don't want to cover contraception on insurance? That sounds retarded. What is the cost of "the pill"? 10 bucks/mo or something like that? The Meloxicam I take for my tendonitis is more than that.

barbara 02-07-2014 11:16 AM

This whole thing about having to pay for contraception with the ACA is BS.

For years, with employee based insurance, I have been paying for coverage for vasectomies for myself and my husband is covered for breast exams and birth control pills. I'm guessing most anyone with any kind of ins has been doing the same.

But now that the ACA is out there..... All of a sudden it's a big issue.

Go figure.

piece-itpete 02-07-2014 11:36 AM

It's seen as private run vs government mandated rightly or wrongly.

Yet another example of the Dems abysmal communications and the GOP's willingness to lie about and conflate anything. The CBO is the latest example, along with Boehner not wanting to pursue immigration because he doesn't trust Obama. Yeh, right.

What is the difference? It is still just about paying for a prescription or a medical device or procedure. Does that mean that since contraception isn't "medically necessary" it shouldn't be paid for? Maybe we need a new medical term..."socially necessary". I don't see anybody griping about insurance companies covering a flu shot.

bobabode 02-07-2014 12:00 PM

They cover those little blue penis starch pills, don't they? Mebbe a 'pubbie can answer that one...

I see...they're OK with covering the cause, just not the result.

Besides, there are at least five other ailments (besides unwanted pregancy :D) for which birth control pills are used.

Democrats aren't losing the Senate, anyway.

It'll be close, even for Mitch McConnell. He now trails the Dem challenger in Kentucky 46-42.

In the most troubling sign for McConnell, the poll finds his job-approval rating was two points below the 34 percent approval rating the poll found for President Obama.

Right on Barbra.

And I think a lot more women are concerned about the economy and feeding their families and making ends meet. Or how their adult children are getting by in this unstable time.

Well it's more than that. Something being forced on people that don't agree as to their religion.

WTF does religion have to do with it. Just because it covers contraception doesn't mean you have to buy the damn pills. That's like a vegetarian refusing to eat a salad at a restaurant because they serve other people meat.
