Fifty years ago
Reverend Martin Luther King spoke those famous words, "I have a dream."
My pop traveled from Los Angeles to hear them. He was one of those white Methodist ministers standing there in his black robes. |
Kudos to Rep. Lewis for a great and rousing speech.:)

For anybody without cable like me you can watch it online. Like me. :p

That's very cool Bob. Out of respect I won't talk about loofahs :D
Seriously, it's a really interesting event and part of a proud time for America. Pete |
MLK's "I had a Dream" speech, IMO, is one of the greatest speeches ever given. Even Don Imus, (the notorious "racist") thinks so. He plays the whole speech on his show every year. As many times as I have heard it over the years it never fails to give me goosebumps.

Yeah, a week went by :)

I would have gone to hear it. But, being a fetus at the time, it would have been difficult without my Republican mother, who wouldn't be caught dead in a crowd of "Jigaboos" as she liked to call them. NO, there is no racism to be found in that, so stop your baiting!;)
Joking aside, I love that speech. Great stuff! Bob, it sounds like your Dad lived a fascinating life. It would have been nice to meet him. Dave |

He graduated high school right into the 10th Armored Division who were attached the 3rd Army under 'Old Blood and Guts' Patton once they landed in Europe. After he came home, he went to USC on the GI bill and was recruited by an all black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. He mowed lawns in the Crenshaw district of LA as a pledge. He joined the Methodist Church clergy right after graduation in '49 and was active in the civil rights movement from the git go. |

I would have asked Reverend King this question: "Reverend Sir, what color has God?" |
Spirits have no "color". And, why would it really matter, anyways?

If everybody either black or white would realise this point King's dream would not be so far away from getting reality as it is now. Religion is a very mighty power. Mostly a dangerous one, unfortunately. |

See, they do not really care about the flag, just that it was Obama that was on it....... |
