Fifty years ago

Reverend Martin Luther King spoke those famous words, "I have a dream."
My pop traveled from Los Angeles to hear them. He was one of those white Methodist ministers standing there in his black robes.

Kudos to Rep. Lewis for a great and rousing speech.:)

That's very cool Bob. Out of respect I won't talk about loofahs :D

Seriously, it's a really interesting event and part of a proud time for America.

MLK's "I had a Dream" speech, IMO, is one of the greatest speeches ever given. Even Don Imus, (the notorious "racist") thinks so. He plays the whole speech on his show every year. As many times as I have heard it over the years it never fails to give me goosebumps.

Loofahs, eh? Your python boots too tight, Pete?:D

Yeah, a week went by :)

I would have gone to hear it. But, being a fetus at the time, it would have been difficult without my Republican mother, who wouldn't be caught dead in a crowd of "Jigaboos" as she liked to call them. NO, there is no racism to be found in that, so stop your baiting!;)

Joking aside, I love that speech. Great stuff! Bob, it sounds like your Dad lived a fascinating life. It would have been nice to meet him.

Thanks, Dave. I'm sure he would have enjoyed your company, my friend. Like you he had a pugnacious and a deep blue streak aspect to his personality.;)

He graduated high school right into the 10th Armored Division who were attached the 3rd Army under 'Old Blood and Guts' Patton once they landed in Europe. After he came home, he went to USC on the GI bill and was recruited by an all black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. He mowed lawns in the Crenshaw district of LA as a pledge. He joined the Methodist Church clergy right after graduation in '49 and was active in the civil rights movement from the git go.

No kidding. The last time I listened to that guy, I felt like I was on a bar stool listening to some slobbering, slurring drunk. Nothing he said made a bit of sense.

Did you notice anything missing at the event.......

They are way too busy doing the people's work, preparing to delay/skirt/kill the immigration bill, also crash our economy by not funding anything and do anything possible to delay and kill AACA.

Carl

All under the guise of "protecting your freedom". The only thing I feel the need to be protected from is them.

They don't care. But, ,round here, they still occasionally refer to the MLK holiday as "Lee/ Jackson/ King Day........................

I wonder why?

That is about the stupidest blog site I've ever seen. Are all of the Teabagger sites like that?

I had a dream, but apparently I was too naive (>> Zimmerman etc).

I would have asked Reverend King this question: "Reverend Sir, what color has God?"

BlueStreak 08-29-2013 02:36 AM

Spirits have no "color". And, why would it really matter, anyways?

Pretty much. Just a bunch of sappy pseudo-patriotic crap and comment sections that are little more than hate fests.

I hear ya, Chris. The grass isn't always greener in the next pasture. The latest craze here is Astro Turf. Green plastic carpets in people's yards.

I see a few of those have gotten shut down, lately. Always with the reminder "Take it to PC.".

However, as you plainly see.....................................

Spirits have no "color". That is the answer that I expected from Dr. King. Actually any other reply would be wrong. You sophisticated intellectuals understand the huge importance of this point.

If everybody either black or white would realise this point King's dream would not be so far away from getting reality as it is now. Religion is a very mighty power. Mostly a dangerous one, unfortunately.

I have no clue, I jut grabbed this really quick in response to all the made up "disgust" over the flag with Obama's face on it at this event.

See, they do not really care about the flag, just that it was Obama that was on it.......
