Stereo Shit

I just put in a whole new rig in my room. Not quite finished as I'm still rolling carts, but it sure beat work today.

Rex E. 06-28-2013 06:41 PM

Cool!

The evolution of words.

Cher was asked her take on Reagan after she was introduce to him.

She replied: "He seems to have his shit together." :D

Wish I was able to just mess with stereo $hit today. Still have other estate issues to keep me busy for awhile. Audio is on the back burner for now. Haven't even been looking for what is out there local.

thanks......I just hate the idea of refoaming but I guess it has to be done...I did not want to rub it in about the cassette deck I found yesterday...a JVC-KD-VR320....

I had a pair of the original Santana's back in the early 70's. Absolutely no top end whatsoever, except when coupled with a device I also bought which the salesman called an "energizer"...apparently some sort of dynamic processor I've never seen before or since. With that they sounded pretty good.

They were tough. For awhile, I had 'em stacked with my buddy's Pioneer R700's, and we sent the Pioneer's back to the shop a couple of times blowing smoke, while the Altec's just kept belting it out.

Overall, I think the R700's were better speakers soundwise.

Chas

BlueStreak 06-29-2013 08:56 AM

Never heard them, but always thought they'd be bass heavy with that huge woofer and the tiny, paper tweet. But, get a nice supertweet to set on top and you might have something great.

No envy here, quite happy with this rig.

Nice, looks like those were designed for classical.
Hmm, looks like a 5 in hole there, put one of my pair of 375's in there, refoam the bass, and then produce nice music for your entire neighborhood to enjoy. :D

icenine 06-29-2013 10:35 AM

Thanks for the input everyone....that is nice system Merrylander....I have a 701 Pioneer at work right now it is a great deck.

I am having buyers remorse this morning since from what Charles and others have said they do not seem to be the best Altecs....I am taking a bunch of audio stuff to the SA if I find the receipt I might return them I have 7 days...

Carl what is a 375 a tweeter? are you talking about the tweeter dimensions or the bass port?

Robbin

CarlV 06-29-2013 10:41 AM

They are JBL's that are more like a midrange.

Wow....

icenine 06-29-2013 11:10 AM

I just might see if my RSL 3600 woofers will fit...since they are designed for a ported system (l100 clone)
they might work....and I have some Philip Soft dome tweeters too....nothing else going on this weekend.

Get the T/S parameters of the speaker and you'll be on the right track

Well, they aren't 19's, but they're still worth what you paid for them.

I had the 1st model Santana without the vent & adjustable crossover. They also had the 15" bi flex woofer. The tweeters should have been used in a Short-o-matic transistor radio.

Dude, don't take them back. Refoam, recap those bad boys and mod them. Add a nice supertweeter.

I second the motion.

For around a hunnert bucks you'll have a pretty decent test bed.

Hunnert bucks don't get ya too far any more.

Chas

Hell yes even with my lousy eyesight and arthric hands I would not let them go.

Dave when you add a supertweeter are you bi-wiring it from the amps or actually putting it in the crossover somewhere?

I did not take them back.......I will play with them for a bit and order some foam surrounds...
if the RSL woofers fit I will use those just to see how they sound. But it is really hot today...
might not get around to it...

Good hunting to ya. You oughta consider heading down to Costa Misery;) to escape the heat, we're a good twenty degrees cooler here. Eric Burdon and the Animals are playin' at the big 60th anniversary shindig down here in front of city hall, across from the Orange County Fairgrounds. There'll be three different stages and a huge street fair. A big fireworks display is scheduled for tonight. Come on down, the beer's on me.:)

They usually come with about a ~1pf capacitor inside for a high pass of about 10,000hz and you simply piggyback them at the speakers terminals.

A used bicycle would be cheaper...and make a GREAT birthday present.

Unless she'd rather have a new varmint rifle.

Well, live it up buddy.

It's currently 73 degrees and slightly overcast here in central Missery.

It's just the cross I'll have to bear.
