CitiBikes
Did you guys happen to see the CitiBikes bit on The Daily Show?
I think the bikes are a good idea. Particularly for NYC visitors. Mackinac Island (Northern Michigan) has a similar program and it is a hit. There are no cars allowed on the island. |
I did see it. DC has had such a program in place for years, as have a number of other US cities. I know Minneapolis also has it. Me likey.
|
I enjoyed listening to all the silly arguments against it. I'm suprised there were no TP idiots on hand to scream about "commiebikes" and spin wild yarns about how the bikes are just a ".....babystep towards cattlecars!".

Did you see these Detroit-made bikes and watches. They can't make the watches fast enough! The bikes would be a cool addition to Mackinac Island, but right now there are only a couple employees making them. http://www.shinola.com/ |

I still find it interesting that so many foreign companies are willing to step up and invest in places like Detroit............and Suffolk, Virginia:).....but so many American companies, not so much? Dave |

I happened to see the name Shinola on the news the other night. I think it was in a Love Detroit promotional video that a software company produced. Anyhow I also found the name curious since I recall the crude saying from a George Carlin bit.
In any event I wish the company much success. It's a bit of welcome good news. |
A lot of New Yorkers hate bike and bikers for various reasons:
Their streets have been modified to accommodate bikes. Some bikers scare them with their utter disregard for the traffic rules. Orthodox Jews do not want them riding through their community especially if the bikers wear spandex. Bikers are associated with the invasion of the hipsters which is associated with an increase in the cost of living especially re shelter. For me, I just love to see a female on a bike. :D BTW anyone knows if Hamilton watch is still being manufactured. Thanks for the Shinola link! |
"Their streets have been modified to accommodate bikes."
Oh, the humanity. "Some bikers scare them with their utter disregard for the traffic rules." I guess I can see that. "Orthodox Jews do not want them riding through their community especially if the bikers wear spandex." Screw'em. Maybe I don't want Orthodx Jews in my 'hood, 'cuz their silly hats give me the creeps? "Bikers are associated with the invasion of the hipsters which is associated with an increase in the cost of living especially re shelter." That was a long time ago. Get over it already. "For me, I just love to see a female on a bike." You and me both, Brother!:) Dave |

Watched the idiot do this to St Louis....take your sisters jeans, your plaid short sleeved button up shirt, your fedora and your thick frame glasses and go back to mom and dads... |
I must not understand that there is a difference between "hipster" and "hippy"?????

oh yes...hippies are dirty and smelly and like natural stuff, weed and good music.... Hipsters are the assholes described above....... |

I broke my glasses recently and have been wearing a very, very old pair with thick brownish red frames. This is temporary until I get a new pair some time this month. Yesterday I was in an hipster colony in Brooklyn looking for jazz music when this female congratulated me on the lovely frames I was wearing. I was kind of confused since I hate these frames. I must have been really blind when I bought them many years ago. Now I understand the context of the compliment. :D |
