Man Charged with Murder...
...because his dogs mauled a woman to death.
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...,3599527.story Interesting application of the law, me thinks. Yes, this is a tragedy. Yes, its likely the dog owner was grossly irresponsible with the dogs, and I'm pretty sure that the dog owner being a pot-head didn't help matters either. But murder? Really? |
Going for a jog and the local grow operation owner has his pit bulls get loose and maul you to death. Talk about a crappy day. Look like they made a laundry list of charges...aiming high.
This article on the bottom of the page was even more worrisome. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...tory?track=rss |

You did read that this POS's dogs had attacked others, didn't you? Put the pack down and putting down the owner might get the attention of these scumbags who like to have dangerous animals roaming around their unfenced property. I haven't been hiking up at Littlerock or some years but know the area well. It abuts the Angeles National forest and a state park called Devil's Punchbowl.
It's a haven for white trash meth cookers who also illegally grow weed, apparently. |
We had a similar case here. Fortunately, the Pits hadn't attacked any people yet, but were roaming the neighborhood killing other pets. One was attacked and mauled as it's owner was walking it. Finally, the cops cornered and shot both of the Pits.
The Pit owners tried to sue the police department for the wrongful death of their Pitbulls claiming; "It's just their nature to attack other animals. What am I supposed to do about that?" (The stupid woman actually said that to a reporter on local television.) The judge reminded them that there are also laws regarding "animals running at large" and "failure to control dangerous animals" and fined them for those offenses after throwing their idiotic lawsuit out. "Murder", in this case? I think the law is just aiming high to nail him with the worst they can. I'm thinking they might get a reduction to Negligent Homicide so long as they can prove he knew the animals were vicious and allowed them to roam at large regardless. Dave |

I ask why did it take someone being killed to adress the problem? In my town if your dog gets out and dumps on the neighbors yard you get cited. The next time to the pound and a bigger fine. "O" BTW Pit's get shot if loose also!
But murder? Manslaughter and the drug charges along with a civil suit should keep him away for a awhile. Barney |
I'll have to borrow my brother in law's 30/30 the next time I go for a hike up there.;) Hunt me up some wild Pits, I hear they taste like pork. Obama told me so...

It was covered down here in So Cal too Carl...
So murder charges have been successfully prosecuted in cases like this. |
"In 2000, Knoller and Noel obtained the two dogs, named Bane and Hera, through their relationship with Paul "Cornfed" Schneider, who was a Pelican Bay State Prison inmate and a leading member of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang, who were attempting to start a dog fighting business."
My, what lovely people. Dave |
I saved some kids one day in Queens, New York.
I saw this pit bull running loose on the streets and frightening the hell out of people. I called the police who came just in time to put down the beast as it was on the verge of attacking some kids. I believe if a owner is consistent with being negligent with such animals then murder charge is reasonable. There is a culture here where pit bulls are groomed - especially by drug dealers and wannabee gangsters - to kill. There was a move to ban them from govt houses because of the horror stories. I am not sure if it succeeded. |
Dogs like those who are bred to kill just plain should not be kept any different than a mountain lion would be kept. It's a no brainer to me, I do not get why they are not.

Here it's against the law to have a pit unless it is spayed or neutered.
When I was four years old I was playing in the front yard when the neighbors two doberman's jumped their fence and headed right for me. The neighbors little dog barked and may have saved me as they turned, jumped the neighbors fence and killed their little dog that was on it's owners property behind a fence. My father told the owner of the doberman's that if he saw them outside their fence ever he would shoot them and if they touched anyone in his family that he would shoot the owner as well. I never saw them out again for the time we were living there. Pits without a leash and with out an owner immediately next to them should be shot on site, end of story..... |
The shame is that all Pits are not bad. Nor are all Dobermanns. But, certain breeds have certain attributes that make them excellent killing machines when trained to do so.
However, Notice that cops and the military DO NOT (AFAIK) use Pit Bulls for professional purposes. I had a neighbor once who had worked with dogs in the Army and became a K-9 cop after he left the service. His explanation? Pits have no discipline. They are nearly impossible to control once they go into fight mode. Dobies, Rotties and Shepards, yes. Pitbulls....forget it. They fight until they die or collapse from exhaustion. Or somebody shoots them. Dave |

Right. Only Shepards in the military. Point was I've never heard of professionals using Pits for anything. Not the military, police, security....................
They seem to be the choice of criminals. Dave |
