Where did your tax dollars go?

http://www.wheredidmytaxdollarsgo.com/

Interesting pie chart. Seems most of my taxes go to military defense.

icenine 04-26-2013 09:22 AM

It seems to me that the pie chart is split pretty evenly between defense, social security and medicare.

Where did my California state tax all go Barbara?...I think I paid almost 3 grand.

piece-itpete 04-26-2013 09:33 AM

That is really interesting!

Btw the military is nefarious :) I clicked on 'income security' and a bit of that goes to the military retirement fund.

It seems to work that way at 30k, 50k, and even 250k. :(

Neat site Barbara, thanks!

Hey guys you need to keep me in style.

ebacon 04-26-2013 10:12 AM

The military consumes roughly all income tax revenue. The federal gov't pays for everything else with debt.

My suspicion is that web site merely ties your income level to your IP address. The web site owners then sell your data.

icenine 04-26-2013 10:18 AM

Like I have said before (despite derision from my left wing buddies that do not like the MIC) it is big chunk of our economy. If it goes away we will all have to work at Walmart perhaps. And do not think your private place of employment is not tied to it in some way.

flame away

lol

merrylander 04-26-2013 10:39 AM

No flames, but there are countless other things we need that could use up the money and employ people in the process, it is a function of priorities methinks

Could you not do what you now do in support of government programs that rebuilds infrastructure, improves and guards our borders and that sort of stuff, giving us well paying jobs that generate income tax and increases consumer spending?

:)

I agree, mostly.
I believe we need the personnel to keep the military at the ready.
What I disagree with is the amount of money spent on weapons when we already have enough power to wipe out any other country on the earth.
I also recent paying the salaries of those decision makers who think we have to justify a war to satisfy their own private agendas.

The trouble with giving the military new toys is that they get impatient and must play with them.

icenine 04-26-2013 12:09 PM

What upsets me the most is all the state government employees playing solitare on their government computers....

Agree with all of the above.

Contained therein are all the problems I have with allowing the military to become a primary "jobs program", which it has.

Butchery as our leading industry? Starting wars because we need to create some jobs?

Does nobody see the potential for wrongdoing in that?

Okay, Pete. Time to que up the, "Oooooo, he said America is evil!" Bullshit. All I have to say to that is, "Well, what would you call it if it was someone else stimulating their economy by bring war to OUR shores?"

Christian principles my ass.

We used to stand outside Lawsons (the local convienient store) and ask people to buy us beer. They would.

There were a couple places that didn't care but they were pretty far.

Pete

I drink Guinness to assure myself that I will not become an alcoholic. Couldn't afford to.

Back in the day, there was an ancient drive-up place in Warren across from the Republic mill on Pine Ave. The old man in the window had glasses that had to be a half inch thick. He always asked for ID, but he was so blind he couldn't read them. We went there ALL of the time.:D
