Current TV RIP

Sold to Al Jazeera. To be rebranded as a new Al Jazeera Cable news channel. My carrier, Time Warner has already dropped them like a hot potato. I wonder what their featured contributors are going to do? Stephanie Miller/The Young Turks/Jenn Granholm and Elliott Spitzer. Oh well, scuttlebutt has been rolling around for some time that the company was in trouble and their demise was predicted earlier in 2012. No real big surprise but sad nonetheless.

The sources for news gets smaller every year. Not a good thing at all. Moyers & Co. did a episode about it recently.

I think, rather than just using Current's facilities to broadcast al Jazeera English, the plan is to offer programming specific to the US. I suppose that might include some of the current Current ;) programming.

Never did see Current TV, not even on someone else's tv set. Everybody dropping it now that AJ bought it sure stinks of racism of the worst degree.

Maybe it would more accurately be described as cultural bigotry, but I suppose that's mincing words.

Very nice D and probably true to a large degree. Islam has taken the place of the USSR in many peoples' minds methinks.

Al Jazeera Cable will be a nice balance for Fox News, well maybe a bit more impartial.

The Tea Party replaced the "Red Menace" in my mind as the boogeyman. Too bad they did some damage before they were marginalized...;)

A bit? You're too kind, Mac.;)

I've been watching it all afternoon. Right now they're doing a very good and very sympathetic documentary (they routinely do excellent ones) about a holocaust survivor visiting her old hometown and friends in Europe.

So much for "anti-Zionist bias".

Time Warner's quick drop kick of CurrentTV was all it took for us to be pushed over the edge, we've been there anyway with the ever increasing cost of cable. Now I need to find a IP that isn't ATT. Dial up will be a culture shock for me. TW has been blindingly fast compared what we used before.

Whether Al Jazeera continues with my favorite progressive, Cenc Uygar, won't really matter. TYT has been an internet news source for longer than they've been teamed up with CurrentTV, they'll continue on. The "elbow of the day" lands squarely on TW's neck.:D

We get Current on Direct TV..but who knows if that will last once Al Jazeera changes the name....

Sad but true, Pete. And, they're going to be stuck with it for a long time simply because some people can't conceive of the fact not everyone within a given ethnic or religious group necessarily thinks the same.

I know I've met a few muslims, my nephews girlfriend being one of them, who are very nice people.

Dave

I have no doubt. There is a modicum of reality though, as in it has been radical Islamicists trying to blow up the world.

I'm sure most commies are nice people too http://letsrollforums.com/images/smilies/commie.gif :p
