The totals

The current totals of the vote count have it at Obama 50.4%, Romney at 48.1% and others at 1.6%. That was an advantage of about 2.6 million votes for Obama.

It also appears that about 11.6 fewer million people voted this year than in 2008. That is disappointing.

Michigan had its highest voter turnout since the JFK election. 67.2%.

JFK was 72.7%. Obama/McCain in '08 was the next highest at 66.2%.

BlueStreak 11-07-2012 06:04 PM

I'm suprised the my state, Virginia, went for Obama.

The elderly woman standing in line behind me on election day said she had voted for McCain in '08, but what she admires about Obama is that he has taken so much personal abuse over the last four years and still presses on, still remains optimistic....."If that doesn't show strength and character, what does?"

I tend to agree.

Dave

Things like that help restore your faith in our system. It ain't perfect, but the people spoke pretty clearly.

BlueStreak 11-07-2012 06:59 PM

Maybe. We'll see. I see certain things changing. What I see happening locally, is that a few years ago the hard right folks were running amuck. Other folks were afraid to say anything. That has changed to some degree. People are beginning to speak up and the teabagger types aren't so brazen.

In '08 it was a bit harder to find an Obama/Biden sign in my 'hood. This time....not so much.

Kinda like the Rebel Flag thing. When I came here in '86, it was everywhere. Now.......................Meh, every now and again.

Yep, like I figured last night, California is almost 2 million of the popular vote. :)

Barack Obama Dem (I) 5,573,450 59.1%
Mitt Romney GOP 3,635,571 38.6%
Gary Johnson Lib 98,615 1.0%
Jill Stein Grn 57,748 0.6%
Roseanne Barr PFP 36,914 0.4%
Thomas Hoefling AIP 27,046 0.3%

The Domestic Goddess caught 36,914 votes!:D I am loving it!!!

Boreas 11-08-2012 09:23 PM

This isn't exactly breaking news but I haven't seen it mentioned here.

The Romney campaign has conceded Florida to the President. (Meanwhile, Florida says they won't be done with their count until Saturday.)

That gives President Obama 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206, 62 more than he needed. He carried 26 states.

That is amazing. Take CA out of it and it's close to a tie?

Similarly, take out the Faux and talk radio dittoheads and Obama would have swept the election.

d-ray657 11-09-2012 11:12 AM

If you group Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee, which aggregate about the same total of electoral votes as California, you have just about a wash in the popular vote. Obama took 26 states, including some of the more populous states. I don't think you can point to one state and say that it provided all of the margin.

One needs to also remember that NY, NJ, and CT (all Dem states) likely had low turnout due to the storm. The popular vote totals could have been worse for the GOP.

They did and, doubtless, you're right. New Jerseyans (ites?) still have today to get their email ballots in so we still don't have hard numbers there.

It's the power of 10% of the US population.

My dad used to say, CA's too powerful, it should be cut into north and south CA.

The have the votes because they have the population, buy they still only get two Senators, just like Wyoming and Rhode Island.

Now split it in two and they would have four Senators - be careful what you wish for.

Northern California should be okay. We have the Sacramento River and a few other smaller ones, like the Russian River, to draw on. It's Southern California that could be in trouble. I think it may be time for everything north of Monterey to annex itself to Jefferson State. ;John

What's the difference between a sheep and Karl Rove:

The sheep says baa baaa; Karl Rove says waa waaa.

Just wait till wicked cousin Karl Rove's sugardaddy's castrate him for blowing almost $400,000,000 of their hard stolen money for zip return. I love these wacked out wingnuts who can't even glimpse that their dirty little war on freedom has failed. All I can say is wait for the mid terms because the sheep have grown fangs and we are coming for every last house and senate seat those teabaggers occupy. Are you listening? Sayonara, baby.
