Fox

When Fox News first started, declaring itself "fair and balanced," I
appreciated the self-aware sense of ironic humor this plainly partisan outfit displayed. Refreshing and funny. Never in a million years would I have imagined that the network--or anyone else--would take the slogan seriously. But here we are, little more than a decade later, and the network and some folks have found the temerity to say just that without turning red from embarrassment.

It just amazes me.

Fair and balanced is a relative thing. You can't compare Fox News in the singular sense, you must includ..........

Gotta go...Becks on!!!!!!

merrylander 10-26-2009 07:10 AM

When I consider all the other programming that FOX runs I hardly expect anything useful from it as a network, they are hardly a class act.

d-ray657 10-26-2009 07:45 AM

The need to receive advertising dollars to survive makes it difficult for any news outlet to be fair and balanced. After all, the networks are owned by corporations looking to make a profit. That's part of the reason that news is so much show-biz. It's easier to attract viewers to soundbits and stories about what politician slept with what hooker than it is to have an in depth discussion on the economics of health care reform.

D-Ray

What they say isn't half as important as what they're after.

Think American workers are lazy and overpaid, and should have their pay brought in line (down) with workers in say.....Guatemala? (Remember, YOU are an American worker.)

Turn on Fox and soak it up.

Think the answer to the healthcare issue is to simply drop employer sponsered healthcare forcing everyone (incluing you) to go out and buy their own?

Tune in to Fox and let Beck lead you to this promised land, just don't look to see if I'm following you. 'Cuz I'm not.

That's okay. The corporations/employers have been after these things and more for decades. And, I'm sure you will help to see that they get ALL of it. Thanks, Pal.

But hey, Beck and Limbaugh are funny guys, and Hannity just loves America and Jesus, so they couldn't possibly be up to no good.

Or, could they?

Just keep voting Republican and holding your breath waitng for that giant tax break they keep promising you. It'll come someday.......nah, probably not.

'Cuz after all, the GOP has it's pet projects it likes to waste our money on too.

Regards,
Dave

Or like Clinton and Obama promised? Heck, I'm still waiting for my $1000. I know it'll come, because Obama promised me and he's different from Bush - who actually followed through with the tax cut he promised.

Tax cut for who? I'm sure someone got it, but it sure wasn't me. And I'm also pretty sure it was someone who didn't need it.

And they're all full of crap, Pete. Anyone who truly believes Obama, or any politician for that matter, will deliver on everything they promise....needs to stop smoking that shit, IMHO.

You should have seen a decrease in the amount the employer is withholding from your check.

Yeah, iirc it went down $15 every two weeks or so. So I've still been shorted $610.

Dave, how about ANYTHING they promise?

Uh,

We shall see. Kinda hard to call the game when we haven't even reached the end of the first quarter.

Interesting, how that works, aint it? Since we're on the subject of FauxNews,
or should I say Mr. Murdochs Media Machine.

Dave

BlueStreak 10-26-2009 11:26 AM

Oh, and I was referring to the Bush Tax Cuts. In post #7.

Maybe the current Obama cut is a pitance and falls short of his promise, but at least it went to people who actually have a NEED for it. And, BTW, if you and I have received a tiny, but real tax cut, then what in Gods name are the Teabaggers protesting, anyways? Or are they just making asses of themselves at Sean Hannitys behest?

Well, to be fair, the jury is still out on that one too. What with all of the bailouts that started during the last administration, we will have to pay it back someday, I guess? Maybe with further tax cuts? Wasn't that the Conservative view, that tax cuts ultimately lead to higher revenues for Uncle Sam? Isn't that how we paid for Reagans 600 ship Navy, etc, etc ? ( I Know I heard this on Limbaughs show when I was still wasting my time listening to him when I could have been jamming to tunes.)

What an insane, confusing mess he have here?

Anyways, It's time for yours truly to begin preparing for work.

Enjoy your day, everyone!

Dave

The left's desire to surpress dissenting views doesn't make the rest of the media impartial.

Which one of our favorite nonbiased newscasters said 'the Republicans are trying to destroy America'?

Anyone with a mind knows that the GOP no longer values country over greed.

BlueStreak 10-26-2009 12:17 PM

Beats me.
I stopped watching most "news" a while back. The only time I see the "news" is during my lunchbreak. My employer has installed a telescreen (Allusion to G. Orwell intentional.) that stays tuned to FauxNews (And, I'm certian that's no coincidence.). Every now and then I might turn on CNN for a good laugh, and I have never watched MSNBC. Beyond that, it's the local news and that's it. Quit reading the paper and listening to talk radio years ago. I prefer to think for myself.

I wouldn't say Republicans are trying to "destroy America", that's rediculous.
But, I would say they are trying to destroy the notion of an America run by anyone but them, and, likewise, so are the Dems. And I, personally don't care for that. Single party rule is a very bad idea, regardless of which party has it.

So, anyways,

To reiterate, Beats Me.

So who was it, Pete?

Funny thing is I was just into six figure territory when W cut taxes, gave me enough extra every bi-monthly paycheck to buy a pack of Marlboros.

Got me Dave, I can't remember, but it sure made a splash. It was one of the old 'greats' though, Cronkite or someone.

Actually, the more accurate statement should have been:

"the Republicans have destroyed America."

Something we can agree on.

It's Samuel Adams time today...on sale at the A&P. Just started the 2nd coat of Deft on my door and trim, three total, door has to be flipped to hit both sides...makes it more like 6 coats. 2nd load of laundry, have to run the blankets through the dryer twice...will make it more like 6 loads.

Probably be 8:00 PM before I'm finished. Why not mix business with pleasure.

I'll do paperwork and phone calls tomorrow.

Chas

Charles 10-31-2009 03:51 PM

Update: Fukkin' gun just puked up a glob of white paint in the middle of my door. Least it's Deft, I can rub it out before the final coat.

Guess I'm going to have to buy a dedicated varnish gun.

Best idea I've heard all day.

Noon, you're a wise (or wise ass) fellow...some advice please.

Should I run out of Sam Adams before I run out of gas...should I move the the riesling or the sour mash?

Chas

noonereal 10-31-2009 04:41 PM

That's a very personal decision but I can tell you I'd defiantly get my ass back to the store for more Sam. :)

I saw a terrific story about Bill Moyers owning Fox. He expected that Fox would try to catch him off guard for an interview, which they could edit to put him in the worst light. Moyers was prepared with his own camera crew, do that every part of the interview would be available to him, and he could correct any inaccurate presentation.
