Down but not out

Been absent from the forum over the past couple of weeks but haven't lost interest. Wife and I were involved in major auto mishap on Aug 23 while visiting son and wife and daughter and her family in Virginia. She escaped with a concussion. I, on the other hand, clearly forgot to duck. Multiple rib fractures, open fracture of left forearm, several cracked vertebrae. Was in the hospital for a week but prognosis is for full recovery.

Can't stay on line too long simply because pain and fatigue factor wears me down. I'll be back.

Keep the forum hot for me while I'm recovering. Best to all.

Butch

Oh, MAN! Sorry to hear that, Butch! Where in VA did this happen?

Boreas 09-03-2012 11:40 AM

Holy shit, Butch! Hope your recovery is fast and uneventful.

Get well soon. Sorry to hear about your accident and I am glad that eventually everyone will heal. Good luck and have a great day!

Man, You and your wife get well soon. My thoughts are with you and your family. I drive a lot and it shakes me to my core when I see a bad accident. Once again get well soon.

beej 09-08-2012 05:35 AM

Thanks, everyone. We're getting there. Going to try posting a bit.

beej 09-23-2012 06:29 AM

Been back in CT since late Tuesday (9/18) having taken Amtrak from Newport News to New London. All in all could have been worse. 2 hour delay coming out of Penn Station in NYC otherwise not horrible (if you can stomach calling that junk food paradise a 'Cafe Car'). Wife and I are both coming along slowly. She can drive but since I'm on pain meds not a good idea for me to do so. Besides we're now in a one car situation. Ribs recovering pretty well; collarbone taking a little longer. Not quite ready for a boot camp workout yet but I'll get there.

bobabode 09-23-2012 07:15 AM

Good to hear that you're on the mend and finally home. Amtrak's Cafe (slop car) didn't compare favorably to hospital food?:D

Boreas 09-23-2012 09:20 AM

Glad to hear that things are on the upswing. Hope things continue to improve rapidly.

Jeeze, I remember the days when a train on a "longish" route like that would have had an honest-to-Pete dining car with chefs and liveried waiters and pretty darn good food. <<sigh>>

Comparing the hospital food that I had to the 'fare' they had on in the 'Cafe Car' would be like comparing thumbscrews to bamboo shoots under your fingernails.

Was not that far back when we took the Amtrak Superliner to Colorado, the dining car was fabulous and our bedroom quite comfortable.
