Exactly who is Mitt Romney?
 

Here are two interesting, brief articles from two disparate sources (The Economist and the NYTimes' Maureen Dowd) on the subject of "Who is Mitt Romney?" Worthwhile reads for all points-of-view, IMHO. I consider neither (even Ms. Dowd's) a polemic.

Mitt's got his work cut out for him in Tampa.

I think he's a sort of hybrid android/weathervane, programmed to "pivot" in whatever direction the public opinion blows and offer preprogrammed stances.

There's an elephant in the room that Mitt and Obama won't discuss and that makes them both the same.

They are both fans of globalism. IMO Mitt rationalizes it from a Machiavellian perspective and Obama rationalizes it from a broad view religious perspective.

Neither of them have American workers on their mind. They expect workers to solve things among ourselves now that they have microwaves, teevees, and refrigerators.

Go forth and get along in a nation of fucking with each other. That's as far as the politicians' minds got before they blew a circuit and gave up.

Maybe faith has a role after all.

I think Republican and Democrats have different takes on globalism. To a Republican, globalism means that our "exceptionalism" gives us the right, even the responsibility, to bend lesser nations to our will.

The Democratic take on globalism is far more (too?) modest, placing our interests above other nations, but with some consideration of the interests of other nations (e.g., allies, trading partners).

I'm more of a foreign policy pragmatist and a fan of Realpolitik.

Globalism is not going anywhere Ebacon just get used to it...that mouse, keyboard, cpu and screen you are looking at and typing your posts on are examples of gloabalism.

Yep. Like it, or not, we are part of the world community now. As much as I would like it to not be so, it is. There is no turning back.

Today on FOX news there was a taped interview with Mitt and his wife. It was quite informative.

Mitt and his wife have a huge new waterfront summer home in the northeast. His wife designed the kitchen island so that the grandchildren could partake in meal preparation. His wife also has an outstanding pancake recipe and they cooked some for the interviewer.

The interview was heavily edited as in some shots there were pancakes on the griddle and in others there weren't.

But the big news is that Mitt and his wife LOVE Costco.

Real riveting stuff. I can see how he has a plan.

I saw that - and Fox & Talk Radio bitch incessantly about Obama "puff pieces." Fox took their assignment from the RNC to faithfully portray Mitt and Ann as regular people. They shop at Costco, he flips pancakes, does laundry and irons shirts. Ah, the humanity.:rolleyes:

Of course they love Costco. Most of us poor people do. Gotta be thrifty with such a tight budget and all. I feel sorry for them, I think we should give them a big tax cut to ease their pain.

Saw Robert Royal on Bill Moyer's last evening, not the football player, the guy who runs the Faith and Reason Foundation (or institute, whatever). He was opposite Sister Simone Campbell and opposite mentally as well. I never heard so much ignorant crap from a man in my life, all the while he maintaned this solemn facade. The good Sister maintaned her composure but I could see she was apalled by his deliberate ignorance.

I hope they make better voting machines than ATMs.

I walked into the polls and while they were checking me in I asked, "these aren't Diebolds are they?" Everyone in line was cracking up, even the Repub behind the table...;)
