Already the right is complaining?????????????

Like him or not he has already changed the image of the US to the World Community.

Good job Obie!

Thank's JJIII. You already made my point.

I thought the prize was for accomplishments, not promises.

noonereal 10-09-2009 05:55 AM

President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,”

He has already accomplished this.

Now I guess you need Fox to give you more lines?

JJIII 10-09-2009 06:43 AM

"Now I guess you need Fox to give you more lines?"

What makes you think that I get lines from FOX? I am able to think for myself. With that in mind, I think that it is kind of strange that a man that in reality has accomplished so little in such a short period of time should win what used to be a prestigious prize. He may well turn out to have done great good for the world and the cause of peace after his term in office is over but this is premature.

(The fact that Jimmy Carter and Al Gore were awarded the same prize sort of diminishes the worth of the whole affair in my opinion.)

Just stereotyping, it's what we do here in modern America.;)

Maybe you underestimate the value of his approach to world order and the international community does not.

they can always give him another one.

Why? Cater is generally regarded as one the the most respected and accomplished ex presidents of all time. What's you take? Pro war?

JJIII 10-09-2009 07:32 AM

"Maybe you underestimate the value of his approach to world order and the international community does not."

You may be on to something there. Could it be that the prize commitee is trying to give him "street creds" to better the cause of New World Order?

"Why? Cater is generally regarded as one the the most respected and accomplished ex presidents of all time. What's you take? "

By some people...others, not so much. I do admire his work with Habitat for Humanity but as a world leader I think he was in way over his head. His sticking his nose in over the last few years has been embarrassing to say the least.

"Pro war?"

Sometimes.

.

As a President indeed Carter was a disaster.

I wouldn't go for that either.

JJIII 10-09-2009 08:44 AM

Just to stir the puddin' some more, I understand the nominations for the prize have to be in by February. How long had Obama been in office?

noonereal 10-09-2009 08:49 AM

Why not enjoy the positive change Obama has borough about rather than try and sully it?

If you look at some of the folks that have received this, apparently not.

Even a young diehard Obama supporter I work with is confused about this.

These Europeans have been taking too many white obamas! :p

My very first reaction to this is "Such as?"

I used to take the Nobel committee fairly seriously. No longer.

Fast_Eddie 10-09-2009 09:10 AM

Congratulations to President Obama. As an American who loves his country, I'm very happy that we're being seen in a positive light. It's unfortunate not everyone loves America enough to enjoy this moment.

I already posted this.

President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,”

Yeah, I saw that. I'm still looking for concrete examples.
I guess the Nobel committee wasn't going to give him the prize for economics, though.

Probably should have as he saved the world from a depression.

Fast_Eddie 10-09-2009 09:35 AM

Well fair is fair. I'll be honest and say, while I'm quite happy for the President, I don't really understand this. He was in office 12 days when the nomination deadline passed according to one article I saw this morning. (Great headline, by the way "Obama wins Nobel Prize. Blows up Moon to celebrate.")

So what does it mean? Well, folks like him. And what they really like about him is that he isn't George Bush. And you have to hand it to him. He is quite good at not being George Bush. So, yeah. Guess you can get a prize for that. Seems like there should be a special catagory for it.

Take care,

Ed

"Obama wins Nobel Prize. Blows up Moon to celebrate."

Rotflmao!! Eddie, that's hilarious :D

For not being Bush, he's doing pretty well, lobbyists, rendition, Iraq, bailouts....

Pete

merrylander 10-09-2009 11:05 AM

Blowing up the moon was W's idea.

spasmo55 10-09-2009 02:55 PM

Theory:

The "International" community really likes how Obama does business with them as they are more concernd with them than with "US" (read "US" both ways).

He will be facing the potential of losing his power balance in congress in 2010 elections, so they throw him the "Nobel Prize" as a bone in an attempt to sway American Politics, hoping that our nation will get weaker and be assimilated into their image of the "New World".

End of theory

When the rest of the world likes our pres more than we do, I'm very f**kin' worried.

Yea, NOON, I know, a lot of americans like Obama, but it seems to me he has a higher rating from outside the country, than from within. Thats scary!

Please insert your "He's cleaning up GW's mess comments here ()!!

In world politics I'll take a Cowboy over a diplomat everytime!!!

Fast_Eddie 10-09-2009 03:11 PM

I dunno. Didn't take anyone very long to figure out this wasn't doing him any favors. I'm sure they know at least *one* American. And pretty much any of us could have told them that. So new theory:

They hate freedom. They hate America. They, and Rush Limbaugh, want to see Obama fail.

Well, could be.

And yes, he is cleaning up GWs mess.

Charles 10-09-2009 03:12 PM

The 2nd coming of Camelot. Remember what DeGaulle said about Kennedy?

"Kennedy is the nation's mask, Johnson is the nation's face."

DeGaulle had it figured out. The rest of 'em will catch on after awhile. Then they'll go back to hating our guts...some things never change.

Hi Ed, I'm back, relaxed, and with a shot or two of sour mash in my gullet.

Please excuse me if I've been somewhat cranky, another rough week. One would think that being the "Chairman of the Board" means you bull everyone else around, but that's not the way it works.

Concerning cleaning up GW's mess. While I already know your response, are you sure that he's not making it worse?

Hey man, I know what you mean. No worries. I think I just rolled past 55 hours for this week and will be here 'till 6:00 at least.

Well I might just surprise you. Am I sure? Nope. I am not. It would take someone a lot smarter than me to know that. It feels more right to me, but only time will tell. I think time did show that W had more wrong than right. We'll see how it pans out. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Take care,

Ed

On that note, one of Bush's deals I was in favor of was investing SS money in the stock market. I was dead wrong on that one. Thank God the Democrats killed that idea. We'd be in much, much tougher shape right now.

You mean to tell me that you've just been pullin' my string? Damn, I must be as big of a sucker as Noon!!!

55 hrs and you're still on the clock? Boo, hiss...hope you're not on a salary.

Take care and enjoy your weekend...if you get one.

Chas

Fast_Eddie 10-09-2009 03:44 PM

Well, I am on salary. But I run the department. So I get some of my time back when I can. And I can't really complain about the salary. I'm not rich, but I guess I'm doing okay.

Weekend looking good! But do need to finish up a seminar I'm conducting Monday and Tuesday.

The government has a bunch of retirement funds, etc, etc invested in the market, and they took a beating too. They don't stuff it in their mattress, not the government...they invest it like everyone else.

Now some of the politicians might keep some misc funds in their freezer while they're coming up with a plan to hide it offshore, but that's a different story.

Any more, if you have a job, much less one that requires 55 hrs a week, you're in damn good shape.

Whazza Qi? While I've been to Arkansas and the county fair, that's a new one on me.

Now I am hep on Yang and Ying...had a couple of them in felt slip mats. Gave 'em away and got an EP non felt mat...sticks to a glass platter like glue.

Chas

I think "Qi" has something to do with the fact that EVERY Chinese restaurant has a bigazz functional fishtank in it...I think.

Want something to complain about? Today's WasPost has an article about some lobbyists wanting to represent the gummint of Sudan. Someone please explain to me how the Sudanese gummint is covered by the "right to seek redress".

Qi

Ch'i or qi (pronounced "chee" and henceforth spelled "chi") is the Chinese word used to describe "the natural energy of the Universe."

May the "Force" be with you:D:D

Perhaps the "World" community thinks "we" (USA) the world police need to take care of Darfur, and as we are now a world community, all parties have a right to redress. Come on, Merry, keep up with the changes, they comin' hard and fast!!
