Thanks guys!

It's a rare Easter that lands on my b'day.

Pete

BlueStreak 04-09-2012 11:22 AM

But, when it does..........

Hope you had a good one!

Dave

piece-itpete 04-09-2012 11:49 AM

Pious and party on the same day :D See that's why Bible believers can have so much fun - 'Eat your bread and drink your wine, because noone knows the day or hour'.

So noone, when is it? ;)

There is a similarity though- now that I'm getting older, when I get up in the AM I often feel like I'm rising from the dead!

Pete

It was, thanks! No new music, but a few of these at least:

Is it good?

What am I talking about? It's beer. Of course it's good.

But, is it great?

Dave

piece-itpete 04-09-2012 02:22 PM

Not quite as flavorful as many I prefer, but extremely clean and very good quality. One could drink it all day no problem and I hope to test that :p

It would be a good premium beer for many regular large production 'American beer' drinkers to try I think.

If say Guiness is a 10 of 10 I'd put this at a solid 7.

'Next week here at TopBeer we take various Ugandan beers for a spin across country. Jeremy finds out why you don't do beer shots and pushups repeatedly in succession.' :D

Pete

BlueStreak 04-09-2012 02:27 PM

Hmmmm....

Have you tried Guiness Black Ale yet. I like....

Dave

piece-itpete 04-09-2012 02:52 PM

I did, it's good, but not exactly my cup of tea. My friends would say it's not tar-like enough for me lol.

I also tried Corona Familiar. I was at a store bummed that they didn't have the big bottles of Guiness stout I like, looking with distaste at what they had (Foster oil can? Warmed over nasty Heineken?), and a big Mexican guy came up to me. He was scary so I shot him. Just kidding :-) He said try the Familiar, it's what they really drink in Mexico. Long and short another lighter (to me) beer but with a pleasant sharper taste, I thought much better than regular Corona.

Pete

BlueStreak 04-09-2012 03:40 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....I'll have to be on the lookout for it. I likes me some Corona.

If I lived in Cleveland and had a hankering for dark beer, it would be Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. It is one of the finest dark beers made. Period. Very good stuff.

BlueStreak 04-09-2012 05:25 PM

I've only had the Burning River, and loved it. My brother says the Dortmunder Gold is kick ass.

Can't find it around here----Yet. As good as their beer is, it should spread across the country. I just hope Anheuser Busch doesn't get their hands on it.........

Dave

So Familiar is better than Old Mill Lite?

Chas

bobabode 04-09-2012 09:56 PM

Pete you've gotta try Modelo Negro Ale, if you haven't. It's like Newcastle with a bit more oomph. Excellant Mexican beer! For you pilsner fans try Pacifico Claro, it's way better than Corona.

Late to the party. Happy Birthday Pete!

piece-itpete 04-10-2012 09:29 AM

Thanks! And thanks for all the beer recs.

Burning River is one of my all time favorites. Folks who think it's too charcoally generally prefer the Dort. Edmund rocks too.

The label on 'Holy Moses Ale' cracks me up, tho I'm not a white ale fan. The Founder of Cleveland was Moses Cleaveland (an early paper didn't have enough room for the whole name across the top so left out the 'a') (that's our story and I'm sticking with it :)). Moses parting Lake Erie with Cleveland as the promised land:

Holy Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Batman! :) Yeah, I'll shamelessly plug the poor depressed Forest City whenever I can.

Is it true that old Moses only visited Cleveland once and never lived there?

I remember reading that somewhere......

piece-itpete 04-10-2012 02:48 PM

Yeah, he was a darned capitalist land speculating pig :D Surveyed the area and split.

The area is called the Western Reserve. I found out accidentally that it was originally the 'Western Reserve of Connecticut', controlled and originally settled by Connecticut, and it shows in some areas, very New England-ish in places.

Or as one older lady newly arrived from NYC complained to me once, 'Geese, geese, geese! (in kitchen decor slathered all over everything). Don't you have anything modern?' :)

Get you some ducks.

Personally, I could say something about Beanie Babies, but I won't...other than I hate them bastards.
