End of an area.
The old Chrysler Stamping plant in Twinsburg OH was a mainstay for generations.

"area" or "era"?
Inquiring minds want to know. Chas |

That's where my Dad worked from 1963 to 1985. Back in the '60s and '70s they had employee dependent tours called, "Pickle Tours". I'd been on a few of those.
Oh, well. Shit happens. Move on. Dave |
I thought you might want to see that Dave. I almost applied there myself years ago.
And apparently I need remedial English. Pete |
Thanks, Pete.
Why didn't you? Pop loved his job there. Dave |
Btw, I went with my uncle years back to a employee tour at Ford in St Louis. It was cool as heck, particularly as my uncle said hell with the yellow line we were supposed to follow and went where ever he wanted. Even back then (early 80s) they had tons of automation.

At the time the big three was already in trouble. I'd have been ok if I managed to get in 20 years before it closed, if having to move to Detroit City is OK :p

It's all good. A job in Korea is just as good as a job in America. Just ask the captains of industry.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. That's where the Ford F-150 plant down the road from me went, to the new-ish plant in Dearborn. I recall reading an article a few years ago, wherein Bill Ford was quoted as saying that there is a movement afoot among the automakers to "return to the Detriot area.". Dave |
Well, how else do you get cars "imported from Detroit?"

Owned by Fiat ;)
Iirc Dave the work went to Lansing? Pete |
Hmmmm, I'll have to research that.
|
Same thing happened to the Delco battery plant near my town. It's amazing how quickly a nice neighborhood can go the dogs (or illegals in this case).
|
Update: They finally gave up trying to sell the office part of the building (what's in the pic below) and tore it down. It is completely gone.

Just looked through this again, read the article.
Thanks again, Pete. Dave |
I was thinking of you bud.
And in a straight way, so don't get any ideas :D I was just told recently those first gen Chargers have fold down seats and can fit a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood with the hatch shut. Hmmm, should I sell the truck? Pete |
In your dreams, Nancy.
Yes, they did. Dave |
Then I could swap a built 440 in there, look you up, race the Bluestreak, and see how badly an old musclecar gets beaten by a new one.

Glad I did. I wouldn't want to be associated with the cars of that era. |
My Dad said that when he retired in '85 he was making, "....a little over eighteen an hour." He was a maintenance mechanic, like me. My plant is non-union, but I make a little over twenty nine an hour. However, he also had a union pension for life that he and my Mom lived fairly well on until they both passed five years ago.
I have a 401k that may or may not be worth a shit 15 years from now and the fading hope that the bastard politicians who scream "socializm" at SS and Medicare won't kill it before I get to use it. Dave |
I'm noticing a lot of guys my age are retiring early...like in their late 50's. Work just got too stressful. (well...one is dying of cancer so he don't count)
I'm looking to semi-retire next year myself. Been on this job 25 years and that's long enough. The missus says she'll support me. Does that make me a gigolo? |
Yes.

Another late fifties slacker here. The last 25 years have given me bad knees and a torn rotater which has taken the wind out of my sails. Someone else can lift that barge and tote those kitchen cabinets as far as I'm concerned. |
