Michigan 4 year limit takes effect today

A lot people have their panties in a wad over this one. Its taken effect and now people are screaming they may have to take drastic measures such as illegal means to make a living. I was shocked when I head this. Illegal means ? Would it not be easier to just find a job ??

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Rick Snyder on Tuesday signed into law a stricter, four-year lifetime limit on cash welfare benefits, prompting advocates for the poor to warn that tens of thousands of residents will find themselves without cash assistance on Oct. 1.

Now tax all union workers 12% and redistribute that money to the jobless poor.
I never heard much about the governors race in MI. from the lame stream media. It's good the people tossed out that worthless bitch Jennifer Granholm and the socialists in the House. :)

Bigerik 10-01-2011 03:45 PM

What's the unemployment rate like there, Dave?

Grumpy 10-01-2011 09:38 PM

Oh there's jobs here. Mcdonalds, BK, Wendy's.

BlueStreak 10-01-2011 10:48 PM

McDonalds, BK, and Wendys...............Woo hoo.......And you wonder why people would rather end up on welfare? If you're going to be shitty poor, it might as well be because you're not working.

Dave, your governor is an ass. Your crime rate is about to explode. Few people are going to work so they still can't pay the bills.....that's bullshit.

Well, at least if they leave you won't have to worry about having them around anymore.
I guess that's one upshot for ya.

Maybe Dj can move to MI and be proud to wear the paper hat and flip burgers for chump change. I sure as fuck aint doin' it.

Dave

Just saw a piece on the news. Seems like they are taking bets on who runs out of cash first, Michigan, or California. I wonder if the Chinese would make either state a loan?

Minimum wage and part-time to boot, time to rejoice and give thanks.

I really call myself fortunate that I am no longer part of the "workforce". I thought it was bad in the late '70s and early '80s but it appears to be much, much worse now. It is not a good thing for anyone to say they are glad to be old, but I am glad I am. It gets very, very depressing trying to find work and getting rejected time and time again. It can make a person feel downright worthless.

Grumpy 04-09-2013 08:25 AM

Things are getting a little better here job wise, but not by leaps and bounds. Sadly I think they are still battling this law out in the courts. Typical red tape crap.

Wasillaguy 04-09-2013 01:52 PM

Indeed.com shows over 27K job ads that pay over $40K in Michigan.

barbara 04-09-2013 01:54 PM

Someone in Michigan must need some good press. While this bill may appeal to people reading the headline, it really doesn't do much in the bigger scheme of things. With all the exceptions available and an added safety net funded by gov. I don't see what the point is.

bobabode 04-09-2013 03:07 PM

"Then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat, signed a bill that created a four-year limit starting in 2007. But that law exempted many welfare recipients, including those whose caseworkers said they were making progress toward finding employment."

What's to bitch about? Sounds like Jenn Granholm was a Repubs wet dream come true? Since then the statehouse Repubs pulled out all the stops and pulled every dirty trick they could during the lameduck period with the goal of turning the home of the UAW into yet another right to starve state. For what? To compete with Indiana? Oh, please. Michigan has turned into a land of fairytales. I'm sure my Yooper gramps would have some choice words for the anti-union crowd in Lansing. Friggin' traitorous bastids.:p

It's slow all over, Dave. That was the biggest hole we've had to dig ourselves out of since the '30's. At least the Prez didn't let the auto industry go belly up like the Republican party was all for back in '08 - '09.

That people don't want to work? No, it's a lot bigger than him, but he makes a good mascot.

I hear ya. My better half has been getting no response from applications for years. It sucks. She's only a handful of years from retirement age. I've got 9 years to go so, I'll probably just up and die in the traces...:(

You know me better than that, Was.:D

It must be Obama's fault that the economy is getting better despite the best efforts of the Teabaggers in congress.:)

bobabode 04-09-2013 03:48 PM

How the heck is it goin' up there, Was? Is the river ice breaking up yet? That must be a helluva sight. You aren't doing any ice fishin', are you?

Wasillaguy 04-09-2013 04:50 PM

Rivers are still solid. Earliest the Nenana river ever went out was April 20. Nenana is kind of the benchmark, that's the one they hold the raffle on.
Only went ice fishing once this year, with a buddy about a month ago. We drank beer and fried up juvenile kings as we caught them, olive oil in a skillet on a Coleman stove right there on the ice. It was nice, and real tasty.

Sounds like a blast. I caught one of those blackmouth kings all the way down here in SoCal once. Smoked it up in a kettle BBQ with mesquite chips. Fine tasting fish but I'll take California halibut any day, PCBs just add flavor.:D

Wow. A million more and they might have something that will actually make a difference.

That's everywhere, Dave. Around here they're sweating the defense cuts. They've finally realized just how dependent they are on the government teet. They Mayor of Norfolk stated that defense spending alone accounts for ~45% of his cities tax revenues. Newport News stated defense and other federal spending related tax revenues at ~37%. This place will drop like a rock if the cuts are deep enough.

Dave
