545 vs 300,000,000 545 vs 300,000,000 EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE. Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years. 545 PEOPLE By Charlie Reese Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .. If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess! Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper. What you do with this article now that you have read it.......... Is up to you. This might be funny if it weren't so darned true. Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians?' And I still have to 'press 1' for English!? I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times!!! YOU can help it get there!!! GO AHEAD - - - BE AN AMERICAN!!! |
Boy, ain't it the truth...

How's the standard of life vs. 100 years ago? |
I'll bet it was not as bad as you make it out to be.
Actually its all subjective. To a city dweller it would not be all that different then now. Folks out in the woods had it a bit different but some of them choose it that way. |
100 years ago, if you didn't have the money to buy something, you probably wouldn't get it. Sure, banks did make loans, and General Stores would let you borrow against future harvests, but people weren't pressured to keep getting more more more the way they are today.
Noonereal, how would you say the average citizens' debt from 100 years ago relates to what most americans owe today? It would be interesting to know what those figures are. AHA! http://politicalcalculations.blogspo...to-income.html |
<<<<<<<<<<<people weren't pressured to keep getting more more more the way they are today.>>>>>>>>>
Who is pressing them? |

I'd ask what was the cause of this change then debate weather it is good or bad. |

I think they are pressuring themselves. Have you watched TV lately? Everything is centered around getting rich, getting famous... Every show on cable is either about murder, sex crimes, or rich people, or people doing shit to get rich. Have you seen the dumb ass cell phone ads? It is all targeting the next generation, telling that worship of the material is the norm. Do you really think the advertisers expect the average consumer to get the latest chinese POS from walmart by working at their hourly job, saving the money, and buying the thing when they have the money? NO! They want you to get a new, shiny CAPITAL *** card, or the DISCO**R card with airline miles as a bonus!!! They want you to charge against your future earnings, so that you can pay out the ass for the thing and everyone can get paid for it a jillion times..
say you work in a restaurant, as a tipped employee... The state charges a tax on your guests bill, the state gets paid You give 10% of the tip you earn to a busser, 10% to the bar, 10% to the food runner... All four of the tipped employees report that income, the state and the country get paid The hour that you worked waiting on those people gets taxed on your check, taking your $2.13 an hour down to around $1.45. You go to wal mart to buy some plastic forks, you pay sales tax again, and again, the state gets paid. What a lovely system. I'm sure someone somewhere is achieving the american dream off this racket. I'm just pretty sure that it's not me or anyone I know. Regards, Erin |

Often, those who complain the loudest about taxes are those who are expecting enormous funding of the military while gutting useful things like education or some other social benefit (that really matters). Also many who complain about taxes are the first in line for some kind of government largess...on the dole, subsidies, war profiteering, etc.
Are there too many taxes? Yes. Is there too much government waste? Yes. I'd be all in favor of cutting taxes for those who don't like them, but they can get their own country somewhere else and spiral into the abyss on their own without me. |
I would never expect the funding of the military while gutting education. I am in no way "on the dole" or in any way profiteering from the war. I don't have a problem paying taxes, just not the outrageous amounts they are currently taking.
I agree with your point about the government waste, too. You must be able to see from the example I made that there is something very wrong about this system. Erin |

People should know enough to teach their children that materialism and possesions do not make you a better person. They should teach them how to take care of things, so that the things may last a long time, instead of buying them a new one every year. People should be teaching their children the value of a day's work, whether you work in a corner office or a meatpacking plant. It seems that instead we are instilling a belief that the easiest way to happiness is a pedicure, or a purse, or botox. This to me is sad, and unfortunately, not anything that I could blame on the government. Nor is it anything I feel it's the government's job to fix. Erin |

Debt is so EASY to accumulate now, too...Don't got the money ? No problemo...Just whip out the ol' Amex, Visa or MasterCard...No big deal if you miss a payment w/them...They're Pleased as Punch to add interest on top of interest on top of fees on top of interest...And yes, I like having national parks, interstate hiways, B-52 bombers, etc, etc, etc...But the gov't taking basically 50% of everything I "own" either in income tax, death tax, or whatever is OBSCENE...Period. And we just THINK we own anything in this country...Don't pay taxes on property & see how long you get to keep it... The liberals can carry on til they're blue in the face about taxing the "Evil Rich", but the REAL fact of the matter is that the only people who REALLY pay taxes in this country are the middle class...The "Poor" effectively don't, as they get most all of what they pay back in subsidies, the "Rich" don't, either, because of fancy lawyers & shelters...But You 'n' Me, as usual, take it on the chin...
