Auf Wiedersehen, meine Herren.

I'm flying out tonight with my wife and youngest son to visit our oldest son in Germany for 3 weeks. We're spending 2 days in Iceland on the way and plan to make a series of 3-4 day trips out of our home base in Wiesbaden.

On the itinerary: the Black Forest, Alsace, Prague, Southern Bavaria, the Rhein/Mosel Valleys, the Ardennes, Brugges and Amsterdam.

We return on July 6. I'll be thinking about you schlubs.;)

Sounds wonderful!

Better hurry though - I hear Amsterdam is changing their laws, tourists will no longer be able to, um, partake: residents only ;)

The nerve of those tolerant Dutch. I can still take my wife for a stroll through the Red Light district though.

Safe trip and enjoy yourselves.

Very Cool.. Relax -- we'll save your spot...

And DRIVE carefully.. If you do.. I realized that after 5 or 6 trips to Europe that Perhaps I ought to buy a Drivers handbook in the local bookstore. You'd be amazed at what all those squiggly lines mean!!!

Not to worry. I had a Porsche for the 8 years I lived there. It'll be a downgrade to drive my son's BMW 325i. ;)

BlueStreak 06-14-2011 12:35 PM

Be careful stepping over all of the dead bodies lining the streets, left there by those European Soshialist healthcare systems.:p

Ansonsten, genießen Sie Ihre Reise. Wünschte, ich wäre mit dir.:)

It is even more fun in England driving on the left.:D

Europeans are OK as long as you remember that the left lane is for passing.

Danke vielmals (or as silly Americans used to say "Donkey Fieldmouse.")

JonL 06-14-2011 02:36 PM

Have a great trip!

d-ray657 06-14-2011 06:16 PM

Drink a brew or two for me. Enjoy the beauty that you are planning to see. I would imagine that it is going to be good to get to spend a little time with your son as well. Are you going to let him take his little brother our for a night on the town?

BTW, I've heard that they have this new-fangled internet over there too.

Regards,

D-Ray

A quick hello from Reykjavik, Iceland. We got here at 0620 and drove around the crazy looking volcanic countryside - awesome stuff, similar in some ways to Yellowstone. More later.

BlueStreak 06-16-2011 12:19 AM

Are you taking pictures?

We tidy up our dead bodies thank you very much, we don't vote them into office. Besides which they're mostly not dead, just sleeping off the days consumption of white cider and Buckfast.

Lots of pictures. Today we arrived in Prague after spending the weekend in the Black Forest and the Alsace. Prague is truly an awesome place, though overrun with tourists almost as bad as Venice or Florence.

Hey, gents. Still goofing off with the best of them. Just spent 5 days in Munich, Garmisch, and Southern Bavaria. We hit the 3 biggest beer gardens in Munich over a couple of day period (the largest of them seated 8,000 people) along with all of the great sights of southern Bavaria (Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Wieskirche, Kloster Ettal).

Today, we drove along the Mosel and Rhein river valleys and tomorrow we're off to Fulda to visit some old buddies and take a pilgrimage to a monastery that brews, according to some, the best beer in the world.

Saturday morning we're off to the Ardennes in Belgium, then on to Brugges and Amsterdam. Back to DC on Wednesday night. Drat.

I got home late last night and will probably spend the weekend going over approx. 1,000 pictures. I'll post a few choice morsels early next week. I could probably use up Grumpy's storage space just posting pics of beer drinking at awesome locations (3 monastaries, 3 Munich beer gardens, Prague ....).
