Will Trump and the Birthers now shut up?

Obama releases his long form birth certificate:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/...th-certificate

Will Trump and his fellow travelers now have the decency to say "Sorry that we've been such barking fools"?

I kinda like the little blurb below the long form certificate from the White House communications fellow:

"At a time of great consequence for this country – when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue. The President’s hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country."

It's about time. Should have done it long ago. Probably didn't realize so many Americans actually pay attention to such stupidity.

It took some time to be certain all avenues were covered, and for the forgery to be perfect ;)

Finn, do you think it's even possible for Trump to shut up? lol.

I'm not so sure, Dave. Allowing this to fester to the point that it became an article of faith to the GOP allowed Obama and the Dems to draw a contrast between themselves and the crazies who have taken over the GOP.

Here's an interesting op-ed piece from today's Post, published before the release of the long-form certificate;

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinio...xsE_story.html

"Haley Barbour’s announcement Monday that he will not seek the presidency is just the latest sign that politically sentient Republicans fear their party’s voters have moved so deeply into la-la land that winning their support in next year’s primaries could render their nominee unelectable in November....But Republicans are massively distracted by birtherism. A New York Times-CBS News poll last week showed that while 57 percent of Americans believe that President Obama was born in the United States, against 25 percent who didn’t, just 33 percent of Republicans believed him American-born, while 45 percent did not. The Republican level of birtherism was effectively identical to that of self-identified Tea Party supporters, 34 percent of whom thought Obama was U.S.-born, while 45 percent did not.
Which is to say that the loopy, enraged divorce from reality of the Tea Potniks has infected the entire party."

Obama seems to have followed the old adage "never interfere with your enemy when he is destroying himself." Obie played these clowns like a fiddle.

Well, I guess The Donald won't shut up:

"Donald Trump, who's popularity as a possible Republican presidential contender shot up after he started questioning the whereabouts of President Obama's birth certificate, said Wednesday he is "so proud" the president has finally released his forms.

"I am so proud of myself because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," Trump said from Portsmouth, N.H., where he was giving early primary voters a close-up look at a potential presidential campaign.

"I feel I've accomplished something really, really important and I'm honored for it," Trump said."

From the same article, a paragraph that would have even P.T. Barnum confused.

"A Gallup/USA Today poll released Tuesday found that only 38 percent of Americans said they believe Obama was definitely born in the United States while 18 percent said he probably was and 15 percent said he probably was born in another country. Nine percent said he definitely was born elsewhere. The same poll showed only 43 percent believed Trump was born in the United States and 20 percent said he probably was."

Hell, I'm not even sure that Trump was born on this planet. His coiffure suggests he may be from the planet Remulak.

I disagree. I think Obie should not have released this.
I see this as another of his mistakes.

At least not yet. You wait until their ultimate nominee gets forced by the Tea Party/Birthers to keep this as a front burner issue. Then you drop the turd in their punchbowl.

Playing out rope? You could be on to something Finn. We shall see.

So, now Trump is going to claim that he forced Obama to produce the Birth Certificate and that if the President had been an honest man, he would have produced it 2-1/2 years ago. I can see "birthers" buying into that bullshit too.

Or, maybe Mr. Obama just didn't believe most Americans were gullible enough to pay any mind to such cheesy political stunts until now? Didn't think it was necessary to go to such lengths?

I know there was a time when I thought we Americans were the smartest people on earth. That was a long time ago, in the meanwhile I have had opportunity to travel the globe and see for myself what a silly notion this is. There are tons of smart people out there, and our refusal to recognize that is one thing that's killing us. We just assume they're backwards and inferior....Then they promptly kick our asses. "Exceptionalism" at work....................

To get back on topic;

There was a guy on Jon Stewarts show sometime back who made an interesting point. If you want to prove the President was born in Hawaii on that day---find out where his mother was. He claimed to have irrefutable proof that she was in Hawaii. "Kinda hard for a man to be born in Kenya while his mother is in Hawaii, isn't it?". Of course all of this was in his book and you had to buy it to see the proof. (To be fair.) But, that is an excellent point.

Dave

Indeed. Trump will take full credit for this and explain how he will get China, Russia, whoever to do the same thing.

This is a big win for Trump and he will run with it.

I'm with BlueStreak here..

Enough with the game playing.. It's a convienient distraction for the feeble minded media as well as the birthers. THey'll abandon flood refugees to go cover some shiny Hollywood object. ANYONE concerned about the health of American politics should have been screaming for Obama to do this ever since the Hilliary campaign brought it up.. (Now -- I've lost BlueStreak again with that comment I bet).

And strange enough, I've got to thank Trump for forcing this to happen. He's done his service to America. Now let's write him back out of the reality script and get back to work.

"I'm sooo proud of myself" == GET OUT OF TOWN you pompous toadstool...

You have Trump all wrong, this will make him stronger than ever.

Actually, I'm starting to like Trump more and more. Not as a viable candidate, mind you, but as a political sideshow, he's priceless. I'm waiting for a Ross Perot "I'm all ears" type comment from Trump. Maybe something about his campaign getting a little hairy, or or maybe challenging Obama's comment that everyone needs to "take a haircut" in the budget process.

No, you haven't lost me, it did start with Hillary. But the right picked it up and ran with it. So, they own it now, it's theirs. Kind of like the Dems using Romneycare as a model for Obamacare..................

Sarah claims Obama released birth certificate to distract from Ben Bernanke's news conference which is today.
Yep you can't make this stuff up.

Quick question and I am damned serious, does anyone here think Sarah knows what the Federal Reserve is or what it does?

George W. Bush wasn’t the best college student around. But at least he’s been up front about his college record, unlike Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Sarah Palin. John McCain, on the other hand, has been quite upfront about the fact that he was ranked 894 out of 899 in the Naval Academy.
And here is the actual Yale College record.. Nothing to brag about fer sure..

All I know is President Obama is the ONLY candidate in the 2012 race who's birth cirtificate I HAVE seen. I think it's safe to say he's the ONLY one who is actually an American Citizen. Why hasn't Michelle Bachman produced hers? If she has nothing to hide, why haven't I seen it?

hillbilly 04-27-2011 08:37 PM

If Obama was born in the USA, then wouldn't that make the USA his home country? I can't believe his wife didn't give it just a 'lil more thought. I'm a gradeschool failure ( never made it to middle school ) .. but I caught that.
