Obama Care losing support
It's not looking good for the August deadline on health care. It seems even some dems are starting to re-think the matter amidst calls from their constituents. I hear "The One" will be on TV again tonight trying to sell it, but I think it's dying. The question I have is, If it's not going to take affect for 4 years, why do we have to rush it through at breakneck speed without even reading it first? I think the American people got fooled with that tactic on the stimulus bill, and may not be so easy to trick a second time. Gallup and Rasmunson both have it losing support with the American people (as is Mr. Obama).;)

I think you underestimate just how naive the people are. |
I think Obama was very clear when he was running for office that this was a priority. People voted for him and now he's actually trying to do what he said he would do. God love him for that.

If Obama, and the rest of our fearless leaders can pull this off in a fair and less expensive manner, I'm all in favor of it. Right now, I'm not holding out too much hope. Been lied to before. Chas |

Typical Obama press conference; questions prepared and approved in advance, not that he answered any of them directly. I swear, that guy could start out talking about lawnmowers and end up with a discussion on the shuttle without blinking. But there was some good news; we will all have the best of care (just like congress gets), it won't cost us a dime, and only patients and doctors will make decisions on the care we get. Hell, why didn't he say that in the first place.

Oh, gotta run, O'Reilly's breakin it down.;)

I support the President's plan. I learned my lesson. Last time I didn't support the President I was called Un-American. Don't want that again.
|
I get called all sorts of names daily. But this time I am calling Bullshit on his plan.
When the man cannot answer questions about his own plan cause he don't know theres something seriously wrong. |

let me guess, his millionaire ass found it a bad idea, in a fair and balanced way of course |
I don't particularly care for Bill or his style but on occasion he does ask questions that others do not.
|
Does anyone know the exact details of this plan? I'm not going to bitch if I no longer have to pay $120 a week for health care....
|
Well on the subject of taxing millionaires I see that Wall Street and the big banks are upping salaries over and above last year. Isn't that precious (as the church lady would say) screw up the system beyond recognition and you get a raise. Tax them out the wazoo!

A little history for y'all. My Dad died in hospital about ten days before his 81st birthday. They had operated on his prostate and a blod clot from the operation site broke loose and jammed in his pulmonary artery. Now this was before Single Payer and frankly the hospitals were going downhill. The majority of the nursing staff was from offshore and of questionable talent. He should have been given blood thinners but they only did that at the last minute.
Then came the Single Payer plan and the improvement in the hospitals was like night and day. Nursing staff are mainly Canadian born and very competent. Prescription drug prices are controlled so people don't have to choose between medications or food. Best of all is that it is a non-profit scheme as my personal opinion is that making money from people's misery is obscene. |

We plan on being cremated in a plain cardboard box, going rate is about $800. Weld me in a steel coffin and I will still rot from the inside out, the morticians are not Egyptian mummifiers no matter what they say.

If you check with your local county...they might offer it for $300. Some return the ashes USPS for disposal. I would like my ashes be used to fertilized tulips. Bone meal is sooo expensive! ;) Guess we could be grossing some out. I am a realist. |

And if anyone turns on a boombox, or releases balloons in the air, or any of that New Way crapola, I WILL return from the grave and make their life Hell...if I can. But I will cut 'em some slack if they have a monkey riding a unicycle while blowing on a party favor. That would be pretty classy. Chas |
Cremate me, put my ashes in a Manure Spreader, & let me put it out nice 'n' thick one more time...Oh, & they'd BETTER play the "Piano Exit" from "Layla", or I'll come back & haunt 'em...(grin)

Can anyone explain to me the "2/3" of the cost of the ObamaCare plan already being payed by the taxpayer in the form of subsidies that will merely get shifted from <I think he said Medicare, Medicaid and the Large Insurance companies> to the new plan"? In his speech he said that we just need to come up with the remaining 1/3 and he's looking to tax the wealthiest for that.
What and where specifically does this 2/3 come from and what happens to the groups that receive this subsidy when it "dries up"? Mike |
Well if it dries up then the health insurance industry will no longer be able to subsidize congress critters to the tunr of $300 million I guess.
|
Many analysts are saying the recent rise in the markets is do to the American citizens putting the breaks on Obama's socialist agenda (stalling the health care bills). Apparently many investors see it as an "awakening" of sorts. I'm not smart enough about the market to have an opinion, but whatever is causing it, I'll take it.:)

Could somebody "splain" to me why the healthcare thing MUST be an "Either/Or" proposition ? In other words, WHY would people who are currently insured, have a GP who they're comfortable with, & have several "issues"-Diabetes, hi-blood pressure, etc have to give it all up & go into a "pool" of anonymous doctors who don't know their case & history ? I know there's no way I'd ever have gotten this bariatric surgery under ObamessiahCare- they'd simply let nature take its course, & let me croak w/another stroke or heart attack in short order...As it stands now, I feel like I've gotten a new lease on life-and MAY not check out in another year or so, which I think I would have done, had it not been for this...BTW, Lauriann & I went to see her folks in Cape Cod last 2 weeks-& I STILL managed to lose another 10-12 lbs on all that rich food-I'm down 120 lbs since Feb...
|
You mean likey dear friend in Memphis? When she developed cancer the insurance company looked at her age (late 50s) and denied treatment.

Well I haven't learned anything about healthcare but I did enjoy the cremation hijack. Best option I saw just now locally was $775. Not bad actually and I did enjoy perusing the premium urns. :D So stash a grand somewhere and all my obligations are now taken care of. Ah, life is sweet. Thanks guys!
Now back to your regularly scheduled obfuscation... |

Oh, it was covered on my wife's Federal BCBS. She's an RN w/30 yrs experience, one of my best friends is my GP, they BOTH told me if I DIDN'T have this surgery, I was headin' for The Last Roundup-and fast. I was 387, & goin' up, up, up...Now I'm 120 lbs lighter, this has been since Feb. I take 35 units of insulin now instead of 225, I can walk w/o huffin' & puffin'...In short, this most likely saved my life. Can't cheat on it, either-if you try to wolf stuff down too much or too fast, you get REAL sick REAL quick.

I'm pretty much swolllen up like a toad, too. 190 lbs of a 5'8" frame. Used to hang around 135-145 before my back went bad. Every time I try to whup myself back into shape, I pretty much whup myself into a G-chair. Cain't cut the mustard anymore. BTW, I've a couple of years on ya. Thank god I'm one of them corporate executives, CEO as a matter of fact, and I kin hide out under the air squezzer processing paperwork for my favorite uncle, Uncle Sammy...you know 'em. Did get out for a couple of hours and help my "boys" tear off a roof last week. Never ceases to amaze me how I can drag my old, worn out fat ass onto the job for a couple of hours and triple production. Damn, I'm good, Chas |
Congrats to both of you, I used to be 5'8" but have shrunk an inch - they say you do that as you get older. Down to 170 from 185, would like to get to 155 but it is not coming off as fast as the last 15.

You fellers just need to back off from the table a little. Me, I was what they call "Super-morbidly Obese", & people like me have only a 2-5% chance of losing weight & keeping it off. We're no different than alcoholics or dope fiends in a way, but where as you DON'T have to have alcohol or dope to live, you DO have to eat...Before they'll let you have this surgery, you gotta be a supermorb, & have at least 2 "Co-morbidities", typically diabetes & hi-blood pressure, & have been an abyssimal failure in trying to keep the poundage off..Then they also test you psychologically to see if your overeating isn't covering up some deep-seated psych problem....This is Big-Time, heavy-duty, life-changing surgery, its NOT to be taken lightly...People who think that its nothing more than a glorified tummy tuck have got their head up their posterior. I used to be able to wolf down about anything I wanted..Now, make a fist. The area or volume occupied by yr 4 fingers is a little more than I can eat at a setting..About 2-3 really good bites. Yeah, I miss not being able to tear into a steak, one of those "jumbo-sized" helpings of seafood, or a washtub-sized salad...But I also kinda enjoy living, which was soon gonna be iffy had I not had this done.
|
Back off from the table? You mean the one with the teriyaki basted nicely marbled chuck eye, and the baked "potatoe" and the corn on the cob hiding somewhere under a pile of butter and sour cream, and the big slice of grilled Texas toast? With a couple of ice cold frosty tops to wash it all down with?
Boo, hiss!!!!! But you're right, and I've done it before. Veggies and fruits are your friends, frosty tops aren't. The hard part is getting your mind right. It's not hard to drop a couple of pounds a week if you can maintain some self control. Chas |
Ice cream is my downfall. I just can't resist the stuff ever since I gave up the whisky.:)

I have sort of backed off; raisin bran for breakfast and coffee, bowl of fruit for lunch most days, then a regular dinner. Steak? We have found that neither one of us can manage a T-bone so we split one. Love pasta (good thing as the cook is part Italian), salads, sea food and I am the only one who can eat fish as the iodine content would react on her terribly.
Fresh veggies, the zuchinni are coming in like mad and the cukes are not far behind. Tomatoes and Bell poeppers a bit slower. He didn't say he did it willingly but I have mostly given up on martinis, yet I do love a good dry martini, 'specially in our 10 ounce martini glasses. So it is scotch or sour mash. |
